@Gopherman has competition. Meet the guy that grows 100 pound vegetables. Meet the Farmer Who Grows 100-Pound Veggies His web site is here: About Us His gardens are beautiful and he does talk about his seeds but I would love to know more about his dirts/soil mixture.
Wales, all that peat!! its good soil, I have to laugh on the veggies, we use to grow giant pumpkins, they are always flat on one side unless you grow them in a tub of water. His 120 lb cabbage was impressive!
My dad and grandad always competed to see who could grow the biggest vegetables each year. One year my dad found and ad in a magazine that guaranteed you could grow enormous vegetables with their seeds. He bought them and the next spring he had the biggest pumpkins, and squash anyone had ever seen. He couldn't wait to rub it in to my grandad. But the things were inedible.
He spends all day in his garden, everyday. I spend relatively little time in mine. I can barely handle all the little veggies I grow! I just watched his Videos last week, Compost Tea, it's funny you posted it! I planted 5 small Turmeric roots I bought at Whole Foods about three weeks ago and one of them is almost a foot tall already. Put them under about 1" of soil with the little nodes facing up, keep it wet and warm and Poof! I am amazed by these plant's fast growth. Edit: I just went out and looked them and the leaves have opened up. The first one grows straight up and then lays down when it opens.Still amazing how fast they popped up!
I know that zucchinis get nasty when they get really big but he said he had his own seeds which means he gets a different plant. Is it possible to eventually tweak a plant so much that food that big would be edible? He said he feed it to his neighbors. @Gopherman I swear this man is you distant relative.
