The BP guns get fully stripped, boiled out, cleaned and oiled EVERY time they have been taken out and shot, once or a hundred times. I failed to do this once and had to throw the gun away as it layed about 20" groups off a rest at about 30 yards after that.

Rifles that dont get shot much (deer rifle only really used in deer season for instance) generaly gets cleaned before put away for the year.

Rifles used on occasion are cleaned after heavy use or when they seem to need it.

Shotguns (the guns generaly grabbed for pest controle every few days to couple weeks) tend to get cleaned a couple times a year at most.

Handguns get cleaned and oiled after most range outings if at all possible (at LEAST a bore snake, wipe down parts and oiled) and the ones that get carried tend to be cleaned and oiled at least once a month used or not, need it or not if at all possible.

Since rust tends to be a problem I also try to oil all the guns at least every 2-3 months even if not shot and wipe the dust off at the same time.
