Happy Birthday Marines!! Another year and I'm happily still not going to be the oldest Marine present at our cake cutting. I am second oldest, and we're using my sword to cut the cake, but I'm still three years shy of being oldest. Chimo, you wearn't the guy that used to yell "Good morning Chesty, wherever you are!" out the barracks window every single morning at 0500? This was on Camp Kinser in about 1980. Every single morning!
Kinser ??? Then you probably remember this.. Although I don't know what year it got parked there... I was there in 93-94..

In 79 I would be found stumbling up the hill to Fatema every Sunday morning.. Would meet the SgtMaj. coming down the hill on his Sunday run around the island.. He was recon and that man could step it out!
I remember the night they went onto the reef. Could hear the crew shouting from my barracks. I wandered out there while the MP's were escorting them ashore. Went back in 1991, and met up with a guy who was trying to get a salvage contract on it. Local government was worried about what damage we might do to the reef if we spilled any oil. Okay, so look at it now. Is that a better outcome? These are the same people who knocked down a mountain and covered massive areas of reef to expand the southern end of the island, and who pour PCB laden oil from transformers on piles of burning insulated wires to salvage the copper. We had a very nice cake cutting today at work. I ended up being fifth oldest and was beat by 16 years. Youngest Marine was younger than my son. Soon, they'll have been born after I retired.
