Trying to get onto the Squirrel Tree today using my saved addy (been in use for a few years now) - I get sent to some weird site called "SEDOPARKING_dot_COM" then some gobbledegook and then "frugalsquirrels". Looks like somebody has a bot diverting us to THEIR site - it lists various 'survival/prepper' type things, but it sure ain't John's site!
Looks like DNS Poisoning...try flushing your DNS records first, if it doesn't work, change default DNS servers you use, both of them...If it still doesn't work, the poisoning is either on their end, or script is implanted directly on the site doing redirecting...or some trojan poisoned your hosts file, but that's remote possibility...
it's worse than that .. the domain name expired yesterday .. OUCH! if someone knows john please let him know. it may have just been an oversite on his part. It does happen .. not that i would know or anything Registration Service Provided By: Domain Registry of America Contact: support@droa.com Web:Domain Registry of America - Domains, Free Web Hosting, Search Submissions and Excellent Customer Service Domain name: frugalsquirrels.com Registrant Contact: John Maniatty Private Registration 2316 Delaware Ave Suite #266 Buffalo NY, 14216-2687 US 866-434-0212 866-434-0211 377559b16b0d2a8c@private-contact.com Administrative Contact: John Maniatty Private Registration 2316 Delaware Ave Suite #266 Buffalo NY, 14216-2687 US 866-434-0212 866-434-0211 xkag1wohcxvkvcki@private-contact.com Technical Contact: John Maniatty Private Registration 2316 Delaware Ave Suite #266 Buffalo NY, 14216-2687 US 866-434-0212 866-434-0211 uckrzx5qor3tonne@private-contact.com Update date: 2010-09-06 Expiration date: 2010-09-05
Looks like someone paid the subscription to the trixters at Domain Registry of America. They send you an ad that looks very much like a bill. All official-looking, asking you to "renew your domain name(s)". Looks like someone paid the "bill" without paying attention and got slammed. Oops. If they already use Domain Registry of America, they need to go with a more reputable company. DRA is not a good company to deal with. Other domain name providers are better about sending you warnings when your name is coming due, and keeping others from 'jacking your name the moment it lapses.
I hadn't visited that site in 2 years or more. I just checked to see if I could still get in under my user name there. When I signed in I had to update my profile to view the site, but it all worked out. Interesting sub-forum on there now, "Amateur Radio". I had to check it out...
