Saw cut a log into cylinders. Stand on end, and drive down on the froe blade with a mallet. Use the handle for leverage, and split off shingles for roof repair or siding. The cutting edge is on the bottom. Froe means "away", as in " to and froe" (toward you and away from you.)
I will admit when I read the title earlier I thought it was going to be a joke about afros. Thanks guys for the tool lesson. I had never thought how shingles were made.
Aloha Gang, Let's spice this up a bit and get this out of my way... 2 heavy duty froes.... 3 heavy duty framing chisels... 1 mallet.... All unused... except for a few blows on the mallet.... some surface rust from sitting in the shop drawers.... Checked the receipts and it all came out to a bit over $400 $200 shipped Priority Insured with tracking to the USA only.... Go out and build something Have a great week! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
