I bought a small freezer from Lowes and it runs pretty much non-stop. I am looking for a new model that is more efficient, does anyone have any experience with one of these 24v eBay models: 10.7 Cu Ft Solar DC Freezer & Refrigerator 12/24V DC Fridge Freezer 723740794007 | eBay
I've read some things about them in the past. Some brands aren't all that great. Do your research. If they're designed to be solar powered, you're probably going to pay through the nose. That's ok, in my opinion, IF you get a good reliable unit. SunDanzer | Household - 12/24V DC Refrigerator and Freezer
I have something similar to this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003EMA7EA/?tag=survivalmonke-20 (my exact model is discontinued). I've had my Engle for about 7 years now and it's outstanding. It barely runs, and when it does, it pulls only about 35 watts. I've researched solar refrigerators extensively and if you want something good, expect to pay. I swear by my Engel.
I have a solar powered https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JSLDFX/?tag=survivalmonke-20 I ran it all winter , just to be sure , on solar S
@BenP Thank ya fer the suggestions @Altoidfishfins @Tevin @Cruisin Sloth I would not trust the generic chinese ones on ebay or that ebay seller in particular Engel looks gud SunDanzer looks gud on paper, there are a few reports of problems regardin durability, spare parts and manufacturing defects if the issues have been resolved. The Dometic looks alright
The sundanzer is the only one that looks like it can hold an entire cow. I will look around and see what kind of prices I can find.
ya might want to get 2 different brands, in case 1 fails. 2 or more smaller ones might be better than 1 larger one. sundanzer owners or folks claiming to own them have reported parts breaking, the seals going bad, coolant leaks and they claim getting replacement parts is nearly impossible or impossible. if these problems have been resolved. here is a link to some of the reviews .. .. Amazon.com: Customer reviews: Sundanzer Solar-Powered Refrigerator - 8 Cubic Ft., 30in.L x 50in.W x 37in.H
indeed two is one and one is none if funds allow, gettin 2 or 3 different ones would be a great idea and also a freezer monitoring/alert system would be a gud idea too [ yep we can build that ]
I ordered the SunDanzer DCF225: SunDanzer DCF225 8 CU Ft 12/24Volt Freezer I'll report back on it's power consumption when I receive it and get it hooked up.
If you can beg, borrow, or steal a watt meter, it will serve to tell the actual rather than claimed power use. Here's a page full of them if you can't find one locally. Amazon.com: kilowatt meter
It will be hooked up to my DC system, I think I have a shunt somewhere that I can use to see how many watts it is using.
