^^^^^^^ This is why we left Seattle in '91.... We could read the Handwriting On the Wall, even then... This is the Liberal socialist version of their Democratic Government... ^^^^^^^^^

Oh, We get a couple every summer... they usually split before Labor Day.... maybe on the outside by Halloween... but only one has made it to Thanksgiving, in 35 years of living here... And never past Christmas, EVER... I think they ALL should head for SoCal for the winter... and stay there...

Re: the video @Meat linked. If they enforce the laws where are those people going to go? The police push the homeless out because the city folks do not want to look at them, so where to? The homeless head to the suburbs. That is what is happening to Denver Metro. Crime is happening more and more in the 'burbs. In the last year we have had shootings, homeless camps pop up and violent sex offenders move into areas that never had these issues. I see empty alcohol bottles and discarded needles when I walk my dog. It is not good. Seattle is not the only city with an issue that the law makers are clueless how to fix. Denver has a head tax, not really sure where the money goes. I think it goes to paying city worker pensions.

Denver tried to have safe injection houses. Our new POS governor was for this but so far it has failed, thank goodness.
In November, the Denver City Council approved the idea to allow those addicted to heroin and other opioids a supervised place to get high in an effort to prevent overdose deaths.
Thank goodness the feds said safe houses were illegal.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Something I wrote a long time ago:

If a man is hungry and you give him a fish, you feed him for a single day.
If a man is hungry and you teach him how to fish, you feed him for the rest of his life.
If a man is hungry and will not learn how to fish, push him into the water and let
    him feed the fish.

Society makes it tough to survive outside of a "normal" 9-5 life without being in the SSS, aks social services system. Not everyone can function within the rat race. Not everyone has family. Society makes it barely tolerable to be in the SSS. And makes it nearly impossible to get back on one's feet without family or the SSS.

The homeless are not all bad. These formed a community where they looked out for and helped each other.

There are bad people in every group. Especially in urban areas. But... there are also good people in every group. The conundrum is minimizing the damage the former do to themselves and those around them, without neglecting the latter.

As always, the way to a better world is to drastically reduce taxes and privatize everything.

As I have said before, I have been homeless but never without transportation or the ability to improvise shelter.

Being homeless, without transportation, and limited by snotty city trash people could make life bleak

I left Sf in April 93, sometime that summer I ran into a guy I had rousted in the bus terminal in a park in my town. Many travels north with the weather and let their bennies reset while they enjoyed the good weather.

IMO people should be dealt with on an individual basis .

The homeless don't have the defenses or people skills to survive the first 300 hours of an EMP or similar. I believe they will be engulfed and swallowed by the panicking masses

These are homeless and post SHTF there will be volumes more may be even some of you, my self included.
I would not be so swift to pass judgment.
There are volumes of folk that do drugs living in fine homes, doing it with children ,what ,because it is hidden it is acceptable ?
I had thieves a few doors down , they live in a nice big house ,homelessness has nothing to do with thievery .
People have been burning their homes down since the dawn of time, homelessness has nothing to do with it . Tell me you NEVER HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP WITH A LIVE FALME GOING .
These are people struggling to survive holding on to life by a thread, literally. I have been there done that.
How would you survive if you had your legs knocked out from under you ?

Like I have before (heck, like I do between every paycheck). I find the best job I can and own that sucker with hard smart work until things improve. I start no crap but also don't take more than the crisis level requires. I stay polite to everyone and lend the extra effort to help anyone in what way I can.

I've crashed before and I've taken crazy chances by changing careers. I'd never have had the faith to jump if I hadn't built a solid reputation in my old field to know I could easily get a similar job somewhere. A safety net I suppose.

You can call it karma, work ethic, or just being nice makes doors open. Life generally gives back what you put into it. Sometimes you get knocked on your ass. It happens. Giving back helps you get a leg up.
