I know this topic has been beat to death for the last few years but need advice as hopefully I am only 6 months out of ordering a M1a. Rifle to be used for general shtf, plinking(if you can called a 7.62 a plinker)
1 22" SA M1A w/USGI prts 1 16" SA SOCOM 1 16" TROY Industries M14 SOPMOD I like all three for different reasons. The feel of the full size is really something though. Just feels like a real Rifle!
I'm kindof a traditionalist I guess. All of mine are sporting the regular length barrels. I'm even in the process of making a 24 inch barreld varminter version right now. I'm gonna try to squeek a little more accurate range out of that 308. We'll see. If the ATF would get off their butt I will have a few of every length and type here to go over and mess with before I sell them. Man they are slow!
Actually, it still hits like a357 at 10 ft does. See, for the ignrorant once, the AR-15, with a 24" barrel, is SHORTER, with a 1" flashhider, than the 22" barreled M1A with its 3" flashhider. Load the mag compatible 77 gr hpbt correctly, in a 24" barrel, and it will still reliably expand in flesh at 600 yds, and it will still have 500 ft lbs. If all i hit you with, at 600 yds, was the .22 mag rifle's 350 ft lbs, you'd still be completely unable to hit me. You will be doing nothing more than flopping around and bleeding out. I aint stupid enough to ride right up to you and try to scalp you, 30 seconds after I've shot you. I'll leave you lay there, until I see birds pecking at your eyes. Or I'll approach to within 200m, take a braced firing position, and remove your head before I approach your downed body. The fact that you don't know the real score does not mean that others don't.
