How to make lard

    Yes you can. I see it in my local stores. It is usually on the bottom shelf in the shortening aisle. My store carries the Morrell brand, it is the same stuff Grandma used.

    @Tully Mars i think lard press is also known as a wine press or a sausage stuffer press

    There are a couple "in the family" that are used when we butcher. Ours are probably 80-100 years old now. These old units are a combination sausage stuffer and lard press. For sausage a large plate the fills the press cylinder is screwed to the plunger screw and for lard a smaller plate the will fit down inside a sheet metal basket with lots of approx 1/4-3/8 inch dia drain holes is used. A heavy bottom plate (that can handle the load) with drain holes goes in or under the basket to drain to the spout. You can easily build or adapt something. Ours look like this:

    Grocery stores here all carry it. Blue box up to a big bucket. Look in the oil and baking aisle.
