Try pea straw or Lucerne hay.....they are leguminous, and you'll probably have less nitrogen draw down as the hay/straw breaks down..You might get the occasional pea, or bit of lucerne sprouting, but chop and drop it, and it will break down to fertilise your crop.

I didn't care for it. For some reason, I had all kinds of trouble with the bale method. It felt fussy.
