You have to wade through the ads but it's interesting reading. 13 Clever Ways to Get Non-Preppers On Board
Thank you for sharing this article! I feel like it is so practical for everyone to prep and be ready to survive in any condition, but it can be tricky to get people "on-board". I really like her writing style.
Don’t Make Prepping Fear Based. Nailed with the first one!!! Appealing to Common Sense and Interest much more effective long term than manipulating emotions!!! Save Money......... Hard Sell when everyone is peddling this Gizmo, that Gadget, the Must Have Buckets of prepper food. have talked to a lot of people interested that quickly got turned off after getting caught up in the prepper propaganda and endless sales pitches. Then they see the Hardcore folks like some of us here and think If I grow up to be a Prepper I will look like Krappy's Avatar in a year or two! People should not fear looking like Krappy. No one can be as cute and cuddly as Krappy even if they prep really hard And back to serious one of the better well thought out Beginner Prepper articles I have seen in a while. And Krappy was left unattended and got a hold of the hair cutters. Krappy really look like this.
First, I really think the word 'prepper' was stolen and has been turned into some weird anti-government, doomsday isolationist term. As such, I really don't like the word. Prepping is nothing more than practicing logical prudence and having the capability and abilities necessary to take care of yourself and the people you care about in the event of an emergency as opposed to having to rely on others or, God forbid, government agencies. I think you basically appeal a person's logic and/or critical thinking. Have government agencies shown to be capable in past emergencies? What is the possibility of an emergency occurring in the future? In a real emergency, what would happen to yourself and family without external aid right now? Any person with a lick of sense would see the benefit of socking away the basics for food, water, warmth and self-protection and if not - well - then they don't have the sense of a goose and not worth saving and we're better to get them out of the gene pool and society by leaving them alone because they will do nothing but impede those that do practice common sense. Personally, I do not feel driven to get anyone to start prepping because if they cannot see the logic behind it and the handwriting on the wall - well - they are a lost cause and a waste of my time so we're much better off without them.
There was an article in the local paper recently that covered this very subject. It encouraged people to do small simple things to prepare for emergencies, like keeping at least a 1/2 tank of gas, keeping a case of bottled water, having food that doesn't need cooking, having an emergency heat source, and keeping some cash on hand. Nothing big, scary or expensive. No BOBs, BOLs, BOVs, guns and ammo, food for a year, etc.
Used to just be survivalist more or less, the the OKC Bombing, and etc in the 90s and BOOM Prepper and Homesteader was what the Survivalist flocked to and found fertile new milking grounds.
The difference between Survivalists, Hippies and Preppers is the number of guns that they own. Survivalists have too many, Hippies have none, and Preppers are somewhere in the middle. Or in the words of Goldilocks, "Just right"!
OMG! Do you mean one can have too many guns!?!?! I am certainly NOT going to allow you to talk to my wife about this subject. One of her most dreaded sayings is, "Do you really need another gun?" I must admit, it's getting tough to answer - well - answer logically and honestly. LOL! I have to get the old soft shoes out and tap like I'm Sleepy Joe Biden.
I suppose that one could technically have too many guns, I mean an individual can only fire one long gun and two handguns at a time. Guns are like any other tool, you need the right one for the job. You might want a rifle in .50 BMG, bolt-action scoped or other hunting rifles, a couple of semi-auto rifles, .22 LR rifles, shotguns, and several handguns. There are a lot of variables to consider when deciding just how many guns you need. Survivalists are those guys whose preps consist of lots of cool guns, lots of ammo, tactical gear, camo, and a couple of cases of MREs. Their plan is to be the local warlord and have the serfs (you and me) feed them. They will be dangerous and their elimination will be one of the first things that you will need to do in a SHTF situation! The Hippies will be mostly harmless and maybe even useful, especially the back to the land types. The Preppers will hopefully be the yeoman farmers and craftsmen of the future...the salt of the earth types!
Imagine how many guns you would need if they were all nose stuffers! For noobs to prepping I equate it to having a savings or retirement account. You put aside a little extra every time you shop. An extra package of toilet paper, 4 cans of ranch beans instead of two, two whole chickens when on sale one for the freezer the other for roasting, A little at a time
