Invisible Ink Could Reveal whether Kids Have Been Vaccinated
Keeping track of vaccinations remains a major challenge in the developing world, and even in many developed countries, paperwork gets lost, and parents forget whether their child is up to date. Now a group of Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers has developed a novel way to address this problem: embedding the record directly into the skin.

Along with the vaccine, a child would be injected with a bit of dye that is invisible to the naked eye but easily seen with a special cell-phone filter, combined with an app that shines near-infrared light onto the skin. The dye would be expected to last up to five years, according to tests on pig and rat skin and human skin in a dish.

The system—which has not yet been tested in children—would provide quick and easy access to vaccination history, avoid the risk of clerical errors, and add little to the cost or risk of the procedure, according to the study, published Wednesday in Science Translational Medicine.

Goodness....cue scary film score and let THE MARK OF THE BEAST panics commence. Anti vaxxers will leap on that like a chook to a june bug.

Provided that the procedure is voluntary, let those caregivers who wish to make use of this technology do so.

Shot record books work just fine and don't allow any perv with the cell phone filter to access info, either.

Add little to the cost, eh? Probably make a $10 shot turn into $250..."but it's for the children" so that's all right, right?[sarc2]

Asked my dear wife what she thought of this. She works in a school.

Sadly her answer would violate the coc rules, so I’ll just say she is opposed to this...

Well, I doubt that the Republican party are up with latest medical technology...the GOP are still in the era of blood letting and leeching.

Medical or political....take your pick...both would seem to apply. ;)

Seems creepy to me. Especially for kids numbered in the 600’s plus or minus. Especially plus.

I don't see that. If the dye fades in a few years, there's no record is there?
The old yellow shot cards are still the least fallible as long as you don't lose it.

They can't mandate as it would amount to a HIPAA violation, however I'm sure the plan will be it's voluntary but at the same time mandatory to go to school, enter a public building, qualify for medical insurance, etc.. Voluntarily mandatory. The tattoo is not the goal, it's the precedent as the water temperature goes up a couple of degrees.

When I think of government tattoos this is what comes to mind. I think I'll pass.

    A dye?
drop an isotope in there. how about a gene sequence or antibody
then all ya gotta do is take a sample of dna/skin/hair or wherever the marker would be present .. and run a quick test.
Just like Chef Tell. Very simple, very easy.

I am not anti vax by any means. Uncle Sugar gave me a shot record 2 pages long in single spaced 10 point font. I have my kids vaccinated. However, I am VERY against the .gov “branding” my children. I don’t care that it is “invisible ink” that supposedly goes away in 5 years. I will just maintain paper records, thank you very much!
