I just had a week long job (after being out of work for three months) up in Warwick, Rhode Island, and New York, NY. To my surprise in the Macy's loading dock in NY, was playing a conservative radio talk host. Also, in the mall food court at the Macy's in Rhode Island had Fox News on the jumbo tron. This is a shock to me because some times the hotels will not even allow Fox news up there. Is it changing, or have I just not seen this before?
We can only dream that New England will return to it's conservative roots - the attitudes before the academic intellectuals began their quest toward socialism. There are still a few pockets of true Yankees who are conservative, thrifty, neighborly, and rugged but those pockets are getting smaller all the time. Those of us who proudly call ourselves Yankees (having nothing to do with the war between the states) do our best to spread the common sense values that served our country so well for so long. I'm glad to hear you witnessed a little of it - that gives me hope
Oh, I forgot to mention. I was in that same dock in NY twice last year, and they had some reggae music on then.
I think that unfortunately, much of the awakening is neo-conservatism rather than true conservatism although it may be a start.
It's most definitely a neo-con growth. I wish it were libertarian, but I followed the same path during my awakening. So there is hope.
Libertarian and proud and in the northeast. I think many people in smaller towns tend to be more conservative but aren't as vocal as the ultra libs up here.
I guess any move in that direction is good, but I have a feeling most New York conservatives would be viewed as left wing zealouts where I'm from!
