We have lost the unending wilderness that forced folks to expand to new ground, and WORK, to carve out a place to live, by doing that WORK... and in doing so, teach our children to WORK, and revere the Education that they received, or gained by Personal Study... That is what most of the Sheeple have lost... That Rugged Individualisr Mentality, that founded this country...

We have lost the idea that this is the land of opportunity to improve life's situation, as opposed to the opportunity for a free ride that seems to be prevalent.

We can't be so bad because people from all over the globe are trying to get in. That leads me to believe that it really sucks elsewhere.

Other than the obvious envy, I suspect that there's less free stuff where they come from.

Ah, the free stuff that normal citizens don't get. I forgot about that.

What have we lost? We have lost our self identity, we have lost our sence of individually, we have lost our independence and our self worth. We have lost our values, and our sence of accomplishment. We have lost our pride and our patriotism, and we have lost our way through life's challenges. We have lost our sence of awe with God, and our beliefs in him. We have lost our meaning and understanding of our place in this world. We have become a "Collective" of dumbed down sheeple who devalue life, liberty, and the pursuits of happiness! We have become interdependent on one another, and yet there is a disconnct and serious lack of communication and trust. We have sold our beliefs to be replaced by a system of socialism where the good of all outweighs the good of the individual, and the people are now compliant drones! We have become the laughing stock of the free world, we have lost the fearsome might and power of freedom through inaction, and worse through false actions that cause long term hurts to our nation! We have passed off every ally and every other nation with our policies, and we have sold out nation down the river by allowing businesses to dictate terms that favor them instead of the people, and we have allowed those same businesses to move off shore in rder to avoids paying their share of taxes while having the benefit of a free market, and we have become dependent on other nations to produce goods for our consumption instead of producing them here, and we suffer at the trade deals that favor those countries! We have lost, but time. We have lost the will to stand and fight, we have lost the freedom to do that, we have lost our voice, and our reason to speak up or out! We have allowed our very freedoms to be bargained away by those who assume power and are left unchallenged. We have lost those freedoms through lies and falsehoods, stolen from us by those bent on controlling us!

Sorry Moto but these are the times we live in, and the fruits of our labors lost! We reap what we sow, and the time of that bitter harvest has come! We are truely good and lost!
And as bad as things are here, they are much, much worse elsewhere!

I understand what you say @Ura-Ki but I am unsure. When I go back East, many people there do not spend time on the web. They may watch the local news but basically they live their lives. I often wonder if the media was silenced and the internet went away, how "lost" would our country be? I do think that conservatives are not as attached to social media as others. Maybe it seems worse then it is because we are mainly reading the other voice and re-actions to their comments.

We have lost a lot, but we have gained a lot. Today I held a friend's 3 month old baby girl, she looked at me and smiled, or I at least think she did, she held onto my finger and cuddled up against me when I held her. She is truly a healthy, happy gift from God and a hopeful sign of our future. When she was born and 2 days later had not had that first full diaper that anyone that knows dreads, they took her to the hospital and then to the best hospital in the state. They found that due to a genetic defect she had problems with her small intestine and needed immediate surgery. With the new diagnostic tools and the advances in pediatric surgery they were able to find out where the problems were, operate on them, and fix them. Fifty years ago there would have been a 100 % chance she would have died, even 20 years ago it would have been touch and go, today she should lead a happy healthy life, I trust her parents and they are doing an excellent job with her siblings, and will not even know what she experienced. Half of us would have died before we were 18 in the old days and most of us would be dead by the 40's or so. We no longer see children with rickets or polio or blind or deafh from measles or with small pox scars, etc. I hope we get thru this difficult problem of each group wanting to rule the world and control everything and get back to enjoying this excellent life God has given us.

We have lost a "Government of the people, by the people, for the people..." It has perished from the Earth. This is what made us different, made us great.

Almost all of our problems come from a government gone mad, gone rogue, that taints and circumnavigates the laws made to protect us, or makes laws just so they can have their own corrupted way.

We no longer can even trust our government because they always have an agenda of their own - not ours, not the American people.

All branches are now corrupt and rule their own separate kingdoms none of which give a damn about America and her people.

They use the citizenry as cannon fodder for wars that have no actually meaning except market share and corporate holdings.

They paint their grand schemes and plans then pass the cost to the taxpayers, or worse, the taxpayer's children in the form of debt.

My God, I could do this all day... Land of the Free? Is that a joke or a lie? It's both. Look up how many regulations have been made in the last few decades. We are stifled in laws and regulations and weighed down by bloated agencies, bureaucracy and administration all that, once again, are paid for by the taxpayer.

@VisuTrac "We can't be so bad because people from all over the globe are trying to get in. That leads me to believe that it really sucks elsewhere."
Not true. Many are now choosing other countries due to the cost of living and the medical debacle here. I cannot tell you how many people I know overseas that have told me this. Many also come here because it is the only way they have out. Why? Because they are ditch diggers, unskilled, and will not be accepted in other countries so they play the American Green Card Lottery, get lucky, win, and come here and get government support. My God, I cannot tell you how many people at my wife's church are doing this, all immigrants, all getting some sort of support, and what truly annoys me is they all think it is okay because they do not feel like they are American and still consider themselves, Russian, Ukraine, Serbian, etc...they just live here.

Like many, I have had a chance to visit and actually live in many places outside of the US.

Despite the many faults folks have pointed out we at least have a chance to fix those problems, unlike many Nations where the die is cast before you are even born.

Could things be 'better"? Most certainly. Could they also become a hell of a lot worse? Sadly, the answer to that is also a yes. I vote at every election and the recent outcome of the POTUS election gives me hope that things might yet turn around. Might. If we don't make an effort, things most certainly will continue to deteriorate.

I don't worry too much about myself, being an old fart and all. I will admit to being worried about my Grand-children and what they will face as they grow up. I suppose my own Grandfather said the same thing in his time.

Ask yourself this - if you had to leave the US, where would you go?

No matter where you pick, I doubt it would be any better compared to the US. The only place I can think of that might be a possible refuge would be Chile and even that Nation has it's own unique problems.

si habla español. or for the family - Hablamos Español - never hurts to be ready - eh?

@DKR "Despite the many faults folks have pointed out we at least have a chance to fix those problems..."
Do we? I wonder. Frankly, I remember my grandmother talking about the same problems we are talking about now and not a damn thing has changed. The major thing that makes us different from "many Nations where the die is cast before you are even born" is we have an abundance of wealth not only in minerals and natural resources but from corporations and companies but they are leaving or have already left. We manufacture nothing because it cost too much to do so here and regulations and laws too complex and anti-business. So, where do our children work?

I normally am in agreement with you DKR but...we can't fix a damn thing. Yes, we have elected a President but the only major problem that has even a partial solution has been attempted is the new tax bill which benefits companies/corporations and I sure in hell don't see it helping me, a middle-class. What about the Flat Tax or new tax bill for the people?

But, we'll see... We have a Republican House, Senate and President so we should see a hell'va lot of solutions to some tough problems, right? Problems that nothing has been done year after year and left to fester. But, we'll see...

What really annoys me is people fail to realize how good it should be here. They always say the same thing "Look how bad it is in XYZ" or "Must not be too bad here cause people are trying to come here" but they don't realize that we are given just enough crumbs to keep us from rebellion and if we could just look around and realize how good it should and could be...

The so-called Flat Tax will never happen. CONgress gets too many perks (ie kickbacks, graft and the rest) for writing favorable tax laws for their *friends*..
The other half is the Social Engineering done via taxes or tax breaks (enjoy that mortgage write off while you can) - all used for either buying votes or raking in dough (campaign contributions) for the incumbents to stay in power.

I'll believe it's getting better when the same laws and regulations they passed on us apply to them too. They too often exempt themselves from what they do to the rest if us.!
