Ever contemplated homesteading on an island. I did. It only took 2 days to determine "No Thanks" and then 4 days to get off the island before one or two typhoons hit. I took this video as we left a hotel on our way to the airport. The islanders were all saying, What is that as this little thing raced by the front of the hotel.
Homesteading on an island? from Realty Productions on Vimeo.
One day, I will get around to posting a thread on this idea. Just need to drink more beer to drown out the stupidity of the idea. Glad I went.
Yikes... pretty dangerous looking waterspout... get those off a couple of the islands here... yeah... no where to run sometimes....
The islands lost their alure for me when I visited The Maldives while in the Navy. Nice place, friendly people, beautiful setting..... And a mean height above sea level of some - three feet...... On the resort island we enlisteds were on, I could stand in the center of the island and see water on both sides......... They had a rough time during that '04 Tsunami.......
Yup...Islands suck...water everywhere and you can't drink it... At least you'll have the salt covered...
I am going to try and type up the "Homesteading on and Island" Adventure summary this Friday. Will post somewhere. Clyde
One thing about islands - in The Maldives, we had SALT water toilets and showers in the cabins. ALL fresh water was brought to the island. It was actually cheaper to drink beer than water! And after about three days, we were glad to get back to the ship for a good fresh-water shower! We got a bit 'crusty'......
Well today it is tough to homestead an island, but that's because all the "good" islands are taken. If you could homestead an island say the size of Fiji, you might be better off. With timber, fresh water springs, and wild life; one might be able to carve a better living out of a bigger island.
Because they iived having almost no provisions other than what they salvaged from the boat and there was no resupply As for Fiji, there are 3 factors on choosing an island that I will discuss. One is price. This will give you an idea. Ki-Maren Real Estate Fiji Ltd. - Listing
