   Go ahead and judge. Bear in mind the standards of the time. Bear in mind also that certain segments of the population are always looking for someone to apologize for doing something that was perfectly OK at the time it was done. Learning from history is fine, it really is, but to look back and somehow assuage or atone for a cultural guilt is a time waster. Sez me, anyway.
