Kerosene Lantern Wick Restoration

For most of mine (center draft) I use mineral spirits...much cleaner burn. Less aroma also, which makes the wife happy.

 

In the house I run only Klean Heat kerosene alternative. Very little smell. Kerosene pressure lamps are happy on water clear or dyed pump kerosene. Since I don't have to light the house all night with center draft lights I never fill them with more than one pint of kerosene. This adds a margin of safety, since a lamp that's tipped over will leak flammable liquid all over the place. One pint is the maximum amount a Rayo will hold on its side without reaching the threads at the burner.
