by electric save the environment... OOPS WAIT... money.... Illinois residents could be charged $1,000 a year to own an electric vehicle under new legislation The proposal would raise the annual registration fee to $1,000, more than 57 times the current amount of $17.50. Illinois residents could be charged $1,000 a year to own an electric vehicle under new legislation
My nissan leaf came from Illinois. I think this tax stupidity has been brewing for a while. Then again quasi socialist a holes like in IL never heard of a tax they didn't like. On the electric car forums the blame is being put on the car dealers association. Not the oil companies like you might expect. The oil companies don't seem to feel threatened by electric vehicles. I wouldn't go so far to say electric cars save the environment. Since its a normal car with all the steel, plastic, glass and Aluminum but with a few hundred pounds of battery and a lot more copper. They still need power generation to get around. Mine uses around 400kwh per month.
In the early 50s we saw the effects of Illinoisans Peoples migrating to Texas and requesting more Taxes. Just plain dumb.
My son was smart enough to see the writing on the wall. \ He got out at just about the last possible moment--just before they boosted the state income tax 30%. He even came out ahead on his house, because it was still possible then. Every body in Illinois that has to pay any taxes at all should move out of the state at all possible speed. I'd like to see how well he tax&spenders manage without a tax base to parasatize.
Not so easy to pack up and entire farm, house and business and move and start from scratch in a new AO ANd in the same legislation as that it doubles our Motor Fuel Tax
Most folks that drive autos running on petroleum products pay the tax's at the pump.. Those driving electric cars don't pay the fuel tax's so the state would see a loss of revenue to fund some B.S demoncrat idea or line a pocket more likely..
ANd in the Fee's department............ I have an additional $750 in permit, operating and Licensing fees this year over last year. Next year those fee's will increase by another $1,700 give or take $50. Yep fleeing the State but it takes time to do big strategic withdrawal Just being real the EV drivers here are largely very much in favor of the Fuel and EV road use tax. The next thing coming up that will be proposed legislation soon is the "Per Mile Driven Tax" on top of the other road and fuel taxes.
I've heard about that one. A bit intrusive, it will require certification of some sort of mile monitoring device keyed to the vehicle owner, meddling again in private lives. What's next, counting your "potatoes" at the store when you check out?
Other socialist fiefdoms have looked at doing that as well.. Soon to be applied to bycicles, pedometers and horse and carriages ..
Sounds like a good way to get city dwellers to switch all the way to public transit. These will need lots of money spent on expansion for the increased load. There's a way for a politician to get some quality bribes and kick backs, by God!
The slow down on that one is them figuring out how to implement it to net the out of of State folks just crossing through the State. Catching those in state is simply tracking the odometer every year when plates a renewed, and when the title changes hands when a vehicle is bought and sold and the per mile tax would be paid at the time of title transfer or plate renewal. ALso in that they want a secondary per mile tax on Trailers and Campers ata reduced rate from the unit pulling it. All this is floating around but not formed into a lump of fecal matter ready to be proposed............. yet. Super Majority Liberals in the State Legislature and a Liberal Governor...... would you expect anything less. And nope they are not going to make us count taters yet.... but we will be paying 7 cent per bag tax at the stores now. So they will be counting shopping bags.
And if you were to sell your car and stop driving...they would still want you to pay a tax or fee to maintain the roads.
