So I'm looking to build a fence to help keep my dogs on my yard. As I can't get the fence up around all 10 acres I'm going to get some done. I'm in South West Texas and the ground it tough and rocky and I have had the miss pleasure of having to dig t post already around here. So I'm not looking to do this the old slide hammer way I know I'm going to need some mechanical help on this one since it's mostly going to be a one man operation. I would like a tractor but that's not happening this year unless the VA back pays me for 20+ years? Thanks for the advice and I'm open to any information or advice.
They've got weed eater engine powered Tee post drivers now that look pretty handy. I'm trying to resist getting one.
I was going to suggest one of them ,, or something similar,, seems like I remember seeing a pneumatic tamp designed for driving posts. But you may have to rent one of those industrial air compressors to power the tamp.
those T-post drivers are freaking AWESOME >>> a homesteader I follow bought an US made hydraulic driver that tractor mounts - T-posts go in like a hot knife thru butter - he's driving 2" oil fill pipe 3-4 feet into heavy clay soil - takes a while but it's a steady hammer .....
When I use my Thor's hammer tee post driver thats a 4 inch drill pipe that weights about 80lb. It helps a lot to be able to get started standing on a trailer or on the tail gate of a pickup.
I used to just push them in with a tractor bucket and no problem. Here there is a problem with that at 4-5" down those bigger rocks are every place. And make lovely U shaped T post. The Jack Hammer styles will very often dance the post around the rocks and push them on in or crack a rock and get through. Sometimes though just gotta pull the post up and move a foot left or right and try again. My heavy hand pounder while not making them a U will still bend them when hitting a rock.
They sell simpler ones at tractor supply , a pipe you lift and slam down . only gravity and your own weight.
