The deal is that the President is a figurehead. Ollie isn't what he was, and doesn't need to be, NRA functionally anyway. LaPierre, the CEO, is the driver. That said, Ollie will be listened to, both in camera and in public.

Too late for us, the NRA is dead to my family and friends! No more phone calls or mailings once we sent the life membership cards back with a nasty note and pictures! Didn't even get a sorry your not happy card reprinted for their convenience! Sad when a group that purports to stand up for rights goes and hides in the dark corner playing with the cheese grater leaving us high and dry to fend off the wolves ourselves! I think this is the crux of the issue, too. Oliver North is and always has been a right winger, even during the Reagan Administration with his secret government corporate enterprise in the Contras. I think he's a well connected guy who can strum up money and keep it flowing -that's the real reason why they chose him. But yeah, his face is much more friendly than LaPierre these days. The NRA is a business FIRST, after all. As for the Second Amendment? Well...it's a really good talking piece.
I believe the convictions were overturned and vacated, so that would remove restrictions on possession. Worth checking, I've been wrong before. That said, the NRA would not be that stupid, neither LaPierre or Cox are moronic enough to OK a convicted felon as prexie.

ghrit is correct, Mr North's convictions were vacated and reversed by the Judge that heard the case, due to procedural Error on the part of the Judge, in not exploring the Possibility that witnesses in the case were contaminated by Immunized Testimony from the Congressional Inquiry into the Iran/Contra Affair... It was a MAJOR Judicial Mistake to not allow those perceptions, by the Witnesses, to be uncovered, and made known to the Jury, during the trial.... The .GOV decided that any retrial, would be fatally Flawed, by the same issues, so the final effect is that Mr North was NEVER legally convicted of ANYTHING....
Yes, and none of it actually made North innocent, it just meant he got away with the crimes, as did many others in the secret government. But, such is the way with corporate tyranny.

In time we find the truth and it is not always what we hoped for, I do know this that Aholes have no color gender or religion so a sack full is what I base my opinion on when asked about government leaders of any nation, I am sure there are a few that are genuinely concerned but looking into that aforementioned sack how could you ever tell unless you had all the video and archives of what they voted on wrote or said, that's when it becomes reality and you realize we've been had or misunderstood their position and why.
