Mason Jar Lid Pies

Or pigs...or jar lids...or something...I heard "bacon".

 

Couple things with these mini-pies-

once the pies are cool enough, press the bottom of the lid up and the pie crust will easily come off. It seems when cool then they will come out nicely. So patience....

Other issue. Make sure the band area is down. I have read discussion about BPA and toxins. Band side down, you do not want it touching your food when you bake the pie.

 

hmm i dont think i understand this can you explain? we are cooking inside the band. which it isnt designed for without water but it might work =)

The lid, not the ring. On the lid there is the rubber that rings it, the side that goes against the jar.

Would the rubber ring on the bottom side not burn? This is an awesome reciepe. Since I'm the cook in our house. I'll have to try some of these.

 

Set the metal ring one hexnuts or washers,(around the rim) and the rubber will not be in contact with anything but the lid itself. I would think that would be enough to prevent it from stinking everything up with a burnt rubber smell.
