Mexican military members get lost in U.S.

The U.S. Border Patrol says there's not any evidence of criminal intent from a recent border incursion by Mexican military troops.

On the morning of October 31, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma sector encountered a military-style Hummer that appeared to be disabled just north of the Colorado River, which separates the United States from Mexico. Spokesman Ben Vick says the seven individuals in the vehicle were dressed in military-style clothing.

"Yuma station Border Patrol agents who were assigned to the area found out...they were in fact Mexican military personnel and that they had become disoriented during the course of their patrol, and they were then informed that they were inside the United States of America," he explains.

Vick points out there was no evidence that the Mexican military personnel were involved in any clandestine activity. "All evidence indicates that they were just lost; they got disoriented and didn't know where they were," he adds. "Mexican military patrols, as far as I know, are there to augment the police forces along the border. They are there primarily for security reasons."

The incident, according to Vick, remains under investigation.
