Million + dollar Ferrari crash

A Los Angeles County sheriff inspects the wreckage of a rare Ferrari Enzo that crashed on the Pacific Coast Highway Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, in Malibu, Calif. The red Ferrari, estimated to be worth more than $1 million, was going at least 100 mph when the driver lost control and struck a power pole, investigators said. Sheriff's investigators identified the owner as Stefan Ericksson, 44, of Bel Air, who escaped the wreck with only a cut lip.

Mr Eriksson is not known to be a millionaire in Europe, more infamous for his frauds, deceptious traits (google Gizmondo and you'll see what I mean!) and robbing innocent families of their investments. I don't doubt for a second that he was the main driver fabricating yet another story to get away with his usual lies.

As for the nose blood, I can guarantee you that it did not take a car crash to make Mr Eriksson bleed. Test his blood for interesting substances perhaps?

Stefan Ericksson, 44, of Bel Air was travelling at triple figure speeds on the famous Pacific Coast Highway when he lost control of the Enzo. The car was torn in half when it struck a telegraph pole, ending up with the engine and other wreckage scattered across the highway. Ericksson told investigators that he was a passenger in the car and that the driver was a German man he knew only as Dietrich who fled to the surrounding hills after the crash. A three hour search failed to find anyone.

Ericksson suffered a cut lip in the crash. Sergeant Philip Brooks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said: "For $1 million, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work."

Originally 399 Enzos were scheduled to be built, powered by a 660bhp V12, accelerating it to 60 in 3.3 seconds and on to 220mph. A final car was built and presented to Pope John Paul II, before being auctioned to charity, taking the total number built to 400. Chris Banning, a Beverly Hills based author and Ferrari owner said: "He destroyed one of the finest cars on earth, maybe the finest. It’s like taking a Van Gogh painting and burning it."

Stefan Ericksson, 44, Swedish game industry mogul and alleged Swedish mafia associate, escaped a sensational Pacific Coast Highway crash with a cut lip. His $1,000,000+, 660-horsepower, red Enzo Ferrari wasn't so lucky. The car, traveling at over 100 miles per hour, crashed into a power pole and shattered while supposedly taking part in a Malibu street race (talk about mid-life crisis behavior). The engine came to rest on the highway while the rest of the car scattered in pieces. Ericksson told police he was the passenger and the driver was his German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich, who he said ran into the nearby hills. A three-hour search failed to turn up "Dietrich" and police were skeptical of the account. Ericksson had a blood-alcohol level of .09, slightly more than the legal .08 limit (I hope those two beers were worth it!). “He destroyed one of the finest cars on earth, maybe the finest,” said Ferrari owner Chris Banning, a Beverly Hills writer, "It’s like taking a Van Gogh painting and burning it.” [source]
Stefan Ericksson is a good guy whether he knows it or not. Now only approx. 397 Enzo Ferraris exist (this wasn't the first demise of an Enzo) allowing 397 innocent, careful Ferrari drivers to increase their assets by doing nothing, which is probably what these million-dollar car owners do all day anyway, Tommy Hilfiger and Nicolas Cage being two of them. I also think it was terribly nice of him to allow this imaginary German fellow, Dietrich, to be the designated race car driver of the million-dollar piece of metal. It doesn't take Scooby Doo to figure out this guy doesn't exist. What a great scapegoat -- a German man without a last name crashes a million dollar car and runs off into the California Hills disappearing into the spectacular sunset never to be seen or heard from again. Sucks to be Stefan's insurance company.

Rare $1m Ferrari wrecked

Los Angeles - A rare $1m Ferrari sports car belonging to a Swedish game industry mogul slammed into a pole during a high-speed street race on Tuesday, reducing it to scrap metal, US police said.

Police in the plush Los Angeles district of Malibu said the 2003 Ferrari Enzo, only 399 of which were ever made, was owned by Stefan Eriksson, 44, a controversial former executive of the failed handheld gaming company Gizmondo.

The driver lost control of the Ferrari at around dawn when it careened up an embankment, likely became airborne and then slammed into a pole, slicing the slicing the vehicle in half, police said.

Eriksson, who was slightly injured in the crash, told police he was a passenger in the vehicle and that the driver was a German man called Dietrich who had fled the scene, Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Sergeant Philip Brooks told AFP.

Came for a street race

"Whoever was driving the Ferrari and a Mercedes came out to Malibu for a little race," Sheriff's Department Sergeant Philip Brooks said. "The other car racing was a ($500 000) SLR Mercedes," he said.

Eriksson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.09, which is above the legal limit, Brooks said, adding that nobody had been arrested in connection with the crash but that officers were still seeking to identify the driver of the car.

"He's still considered as the passenger," Brooks said of Eriksson. "We're continuing our investigation. He's not in custody."

The red Ferrari Enzo, other examples of which are owned by such high-flyers as Oscar-winning movie star Nicolas Cage and US fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, was speeding at more than 192km/h when the crash occurred, Brooks said.

The impact sheared the red Italian sports car in two, separating the entire front section from the rest of the vehicle. The 650 horsepower car had a top speed of more than 360km/h.

"For a million dollars, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently, in this case, it did work," Brooks said.

Police determined that Eriksson was once an executive of the video game industry firm Gizmondo.

"He told us he is or was the head of Gizmondo," Brooks said, adding also that Eriksson had previously professionally raced Ferraris in Europe.

Internet records show that Eriksson was the executive officer of Gizmondo Europe - a unit of a US company Tiger Telematics - which developed games and a high-tech gaming console.

British press reports said Eriksson resigned in October last year after a Swedish newspaper claimed he was convicted in Sweden in the early 1990s for alleged involvement with a Swedish mafia outfit.

The company filed for bankruptcy in Britain last month after reporting a net loss of $225m for the third quarter of 2005.

I would so love to feel what 60 in 3.3 seconds feels like yeah i have rode some electric roller coasters that start prob that fast but i want to feel what it is like in a car sure would be fun
