Damn! A lot has changed around Swansboro, Sneads Ferry, Piney Green, Hubert, etc...and the Piney Green gate used to be a pipe gate to a one lane sandy road.

So sandy that you had to be going 45 entering the valley at Wallace Creek to have a chance of making it across the loose sand there.

First wife saw a snake in the road around there, stopped, and got stuck.. (I can picture her with her feet up on the seat inside the car. SNAKE!).

I was asked on a Warrant Officer board in 1994, what three things I would change aboard Camp Lejeune if I had the power to make them happen.

Pave Piney Green Road and put a gate at Highway 24 was my #1 answer.

A 24 hour ATM outside each remote MCX was #2.

I honestly can't remember #3. I hope it was something like "Bulldoze all the BEQ's and build traditional H barracks with squadbays."

It was more likely something about A1 and F11 range and firearm training, or maintenance of the O Course.

Whatever my answers were, two of them came true before I retired, and I got selected on that board.
