I am so old that when I make soup, I use beef bones, sauerkraut, carrots, turnips, potatoes, onions, celery, etc instead of a can or a pouch of soup. Also find it best if simmered on a wood stove for about 6 hours to blend the flavors. Best eaten with a good glass of cold milk and a couple slices of home made whole wheat bread and some unsalted butter.

I am so old that I can remember calling up the town tax collector when it came time to pay my property and poll tax and asking if he would be home that night. We didn't have town offices that had regular hours and he used his kitchen table for almost all business, Bought a trailer and put it on a piece of land. Selectmen told me that when I was living in it they would drop by and we could figure out the tax valuation and they did.

I am so old that I went to a one room school house with no running water, out houses, and and wood heat. We had morning recess, dinner, and afternoon recess and went outside for all of them. Played ball, other games or ran around in the snow. No playground, we had bats, softballs and other balls. Most of the games, dodge em and such required running around to burn off the excess energy. The older kids, up to about age 14 were expected to be sure that the youngest, about 6 or so were both kept safe and involved in what was going on.
