#1 Son and I were fishing one of the creeks on Camp Geiger and saw just the white underside of a gator jaw rise slowly out of the water about a foot. Since it was also almost a foot wide, we packed up and left.

That is how you end up with skin grafts. Superbike guys I used to race with wore a frame structure under their leathers. Made them look a little like a turtle. The idea was, if you fell off at 200+ MPH, you tried to roll on your back and keep everything else up off the salt so you didn't get burned by the heat right through any protection that didn't get quickly ground away.
