Jacksonville mourns death of Officer "XY" Brown, longest-serving city police officer

At 97 years old, he was the oldest active police officer in the country. Nobody could direct traffic with the complete control he did.


Everybody that grew up here has an XY Brown story. I'm honored to have known him. There's talk of a statue in his honor. I can't think of a better one than him standing tall, holding a salute in any weather, as every funeral procession passed him as they entered the Veteran's Cemetery. He was there every time, for decades.
I always held up pretty well until I saw him holding that salute.
