I guess we can use this thread for mainstream movies we watched to pass the time and recommend. This is not intended for alternative media conspiracy type movies, but I suppose anything goes. "The Veteran", 2011 The Veteran (2011) - IMDb A quote from the movie: There are numerous hints in the movie with subtle jabs at the CIA-lQaeda and manufactured terror. Recommended.
Two personal favorites of mine: The Red Tent The Red Tent (1969) - IMDb The Red Tent was a little hard for me to understand when I first watched it as a child. It really got me thinking about the cold and what you need to do to survive in it, eventually to the point of going camping in the cold (and actually liking it). I guess it helped me become the Schneejager I am today. Dr Strangelove Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - IMDb When I watched Dr Strangelove for the first time I was 10 or 11 years old and in the thick of the Regan years of the cold war. The movie intrigued me with all of the flying and action, but at the same time really scared the piss out of me with all of the nuclear warfare. Now I just watch it and laugh; it really is a funny movie, and I think Stanly Kubrick really nailed the human nature of all the characters involved, and especially the beurocracy of the military.
One of my favorite movies.. A Cry in the Wild OFFICIAL Trailer - YouTube The book (Hatchet) is even better My Side of the Mountain is another good one. That I've enjoyed reading and watching over again since I was probably 12.
A movie that really made an impression on me when I was a kid was called The Earthling (with William Holden and Ricki Schroder). It would be a good family/teaching movie.
Here is another one of my favorites. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yw6Rwum7zcU" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe>
