i found myself at the local small time farm store buying plants and buckets for my first shot at gardening. got to talking to an old farmer about what i was doing i rent so i was planing on growing in 5 gal buckets. the man tells me to get a bail of straw turn it on its side and cut holes big enough to plant my plants. soak it down and stick them in there. once the year is over cut it open and spread it around the yard. sounds like a great idea so im trying it our. i was able to get 3 plants in might have shoulda went with 2 but its done now. planing on using rain/river water as our tap water is pretty clorinated. ill post pics as i go i got 2 tomato and 2 bell pepper. 1 of the pepper plants is going in a bucket as soon as i get to the woods for some dirt. wish me luck!
