Well it's been a while since I have been posting regularly and a bunch of you may be wondering what I've been up to, so I'll post here and tell it for what it's worth. I stepped out of the state of CA to do a bit of the ol' Army training at a nice beachside resort of Sand Hill, which is at Ft. Benning GA. Haha. Anyone who knows can tell that it's not that fun. Anyways, I graduated from Boot Camp on May 12th, if I remember right. Memory is still fuzzy. Haha. Then I've spent the last months rambling here and there doing my odd and end training with the CA National Guard. It's been a trip and it surely is putting me to the test. Why, you ask? It's just not my final destination. I desire to go full time so I can gain a regular paycheck. Civilian jobs aren't panning out with my educational background. Mickey Ds turns it's nose up at me and that's rough. Haha. Well, currently I'm a rambler and there was rumor that we were going to go to kosovo sometime this year. That was as close to fact as a rumor could get. Then just last month, our CO has said that now we are going to start gearing up for the big sandpile. Talk about your shockers. I knew the possibility would be there, just didn't think it would happen this soon. Though I guess they still need people. I just wonder what the new Prez is going to do about it all. Will we stay or pull out? Who knows. Well, I can't be sure how much is too specific for me to put out, so I'll just say that if nothing changes, we should be there in Sept. As soon as I get more info about it that I can release, I'll let you all know. So how was your day? Haha. TMH
TMH Its good to see you again here, thank you for your service. if there is anything you need while abroad send me an e-mail.
Very good to see you keepin in touch Tailor, I wonder from time to time where you went. If you do get sent, be sure to update us every once in a while.... and keep your head down!
TMH, it is really good to hear from you. We are all really proud of you and your decision to serve our country. I wish the best for you, if there is anything you need be sure to ask. Welcome back!
ditto good to see your avatar around the neighborhood again thanks for putting it on the line... Becareful, (Remember Once you pull the pin; Mr. grenade is no longer your friend!)
There is some time until departure, so as in all actions there is time for a frago, though I will keep in touch as much as possible. I hear there are internet cafes and some people do bring laptops, so I will keep all informed of what happens. Thanks for the welcomes and I'm glad to be able to post some. This is, as of late, the only forum I frequent and you all make it feel like home. So on with the posts. Haha. TMH
Yup. Sandbox needs all the 11B's it can get. Maybe I will see ya over there. 30 months until I am a civilian again.
Good to be seen Valkman. Maybe so Brokor. Then again maybe someone will come to their senses and a reprieve comes through. Be safe. TMH
I'm going to show off my ignorance (like apair of dirty under wear). Not too familiar with guardo's or "Army" in general; I'm a "ZOOMIE" you guys are cargo( or one "sortie")...( educate me: what's a "rambler"?)
Okay here goes... Tango, if you are referring to rambler when I said, I'm a rambler, well that is a word that me and a few buddies are using to refer to a certain situation. That situation is: You have an 11B around an officer with a frago. In otherwords, you start out as a ground pounder that's just how infantry does it, and throw in a pocketful of fragos. It may sound stupid but we use it. Other than that, I don't think there is a military designation. Could be wrong. For an update, we are supposed to head out in July for a trainup which may last four months before the sandbox. Just spent last drill doing SRP, soldier readiness processing, and it was just as long and boring as MEPS. So that's out of the way and I officially got stamped 'deployable'. That's about it for now. TMH
Good Luck on your tour, it will go by fast, even though it will seem like time is standing still. As for internet access, all MWR's have their internet cafe's but very slow speeds, we had our own satelite and provider which really wasn't worth what we had to pay, but it did boost the morale of those who have family's. Agin good luck
Good luck man and keep yourself safe! Well as safe as you can be. What unit were you in at Benning? I was there in 2001 (yes, I was there for basic when 9/11 happened) and was in Echo 2-19.
Ditto, we take care of our own here. If you find anything in short supply there just gives us the word. Give us a shipping addy when you get there and we will put together a care package for you.
Raymond, I was B - 2/58. They liked to call our little slice of Benning something like the "pit of hell" though I can't remember what it was exactly. What I really liked was the mind games they started you with. Drove you around in a cattle car or bus through back roads and it took a while. We thought we would never get downrange. Then when we had to go pick up our Class A's, we found we were only about a 1/4 of a mile away from processing. That was funny. We felt like such morons to have not seen it before. Fun times. Haha. I appreciate all the well wishes and all. I will definitely let everyone know how it goes when I get there. I trust in my brothers and I know as long as I keep a cool head and remember training, I'll be fine. Though I am sure that at some time I will possibly want to trade in all that sand for a steak and some entertainment only found in the states. Haha.
Yeah the mind games were great. the best part of 2-19...maybe 1/2 mile away was the rec center! lol Didn't find that out until AIT though. Good luck to you man, and stay safe!
