OK, the sickness worsens. Today I ordered several thousand rounds of ammo for guns that I don't own because it was cheaper than dirt. 8mm mauser, 7.62 x 54mm, and .303; now how's that for a gun nut? Now I am in the market for an Argentine Mauser, one of the carbine lengths, a Mosin Nagant (also carbine), a SMLE (actually have one in .308) and maybe even a Dragunov ( I got a couple of Dragunov magazines). Melbo says I might find a 8mm barrel and conversion for a 1919A-4; sure would be cheaper shooting than .30-06 or 7.62. CMP is down to the last few cases of Lake City .30-06 so that's drying up just like the 7.62. I'll probably buy some of that silly looking bottle-necked Russian pistol fodder too, since they seem to be giving away free pistols with every purchase. There should be a law against cheap foreign surplus ammo.
A real "dragonov" will not be cheap. You have two options for the milled receiver SVD Drag, 1) Actual Russian Tiger Carbine 2) Chinese NDM-86 (I think). Other than that you can get the Romanian PSL which is a beefed up AK on a stamped receiver. Only buy it if you can inspect it first. Gunbroker would be the source for the first two. Otherwise you can always get a PKM kit and receiver and build up a semi auto toy that looks badder than anything else on the block.
I had a milled Dragunov down in Honduras a few years ago; I really wish I had kept it. Like most guns from there, it has bit of rust and dirt but the rifling was good at those old soviet receivers don't pit badly.
