Chris at Iron Ridge Ranch and I talked a bit about him making a D-Guard Bowie for me. I wanted something on the rustic side and of pretty good size and he really liked the idea and had been wanting to do something like that. So I supplied the antler and some basic input and left it in his hands. This beautiful beast is what he created for me. It's 5160 steel, weighs in at 2.4lbs., has a 10.5" blade, it's 2.75" wide and a quarter of an inch thick. He sent pics and progress reports along the way, even a short video. He also made the sheath. I wanted a button sheath so I could slip it behind my belt like back in the day when men wore sashes. I find it a comfortable way to wear a large knife as it can be easily removed and doesn't dangle. Note: I met Chris on NWFA, the other board I'm on. He also has a YouTube channel. (I have no interests in Chris's business, I just like to give credit where credit is due)
Very well done, a thing of beauty. If I tried to carry it here, the local Karens would get their panties in such a bunch. Who needs an assault knife!!! Love the looks of it and now all you need is a crew and a pirate ship. Love it.
Man-oh-man! That's a knife! The handguard itself looks terrifying and would definitely do the business. Shades of WW1 trenches... You pull this out and folks would wet themselves...including me! LOL! How thick is that handguard?
I just measured it, it's 3/16". Thanks for the compliments. The idea was to make some sort of "rustic" version and I think Chris nailed it. I'm trying to transfer my files from my old tablet. If I can accomplish that I'll post the progression pics. It was great being able to follow along.
Yep, that's quite a blade! Certainly has captured the "rustic look"... May you be companions thru thick and thin for many years to come, and to your heirs down generation of your folk!
I had a sheath made for it. A gent named Eddie Hubbard in Tennesee made it for me and he was awesome to work with.
I like it ornamentally but not practically. I personally tend to flip the knife over in my hand to lift the cut on some applications. I still like it though it's rugged and a real fighting knife.
I see that your sheath carries the symbol of Jesus Christ. May the blade it carries never be used for anything that discredits Him...
