    Hi all,
I have been into preparedness for 3 years now. I've started as a typical prepper but evolved into an urban homesteader with a strong focus (obsession?) for everything self-reliance.

Lately my efforts have been on food DIY'ing-making jerky, beer, rice wine and bacon next month. I make my own soap as well and so on. I always have lots of projects to do and skills to acquire.

I am getting into bushcrafting as well as a plan B with a couple of courses booked for next month. I might be a monkey but not a one trick pony.

However my end-game would be to tap-out of the rat race and have my own homestead in the countryside but that's work in progress.

Hi @Guy Ross welcome to SM. Urban homesteader. That is my current focus and I have some questions- How close are your neighbors? And when you say you make soap, do you make the lye and everything. I am now in urban sprawl and trying to do stuff but know that people are all around me.

Well Motomom34 I live in a city, far away from the center through. Think suburbia. My growing spaces aren't attached to my house but are separate. Both my allotments are 2 miles away which is not perfect but reasonable enough. You still can get a lot done despite being in a suburb. In terms of opsec and security matters it isn't the best setting but see that as a steppingstone while you can safeLy acquire lifelong skills-canning, root collaring, growing your own food, caring for fruit trees, even keeping a few chickens.

I made my soap using store brought lye and fats, Lye is rather dangerous to mess with so I will try to get some lard and make soap from that before I try to make my own lye or potash, which is cheap and last some time.

Do what you can and slowly increase your self-reliance up to a point where you are self-sufficient in your chosen areas ;)
