    1.Secure Your Home Before Dark

    • Lock Everything: Use strong deadbolts and secure all windows.

    • Add Lights: Install motion-activated solar lights outside. They scare people away and save power.

    • Clear Hiding Spots: Trim bushes near your windows.

    2. Stay Quiet and Hidden

    • Use Blackout Curtains: Keep your lights and activity private so people can't see inside.

    • Don't Light Up Too Much: Avoid making your home look like it has lots of valuable things.

    3. Your Nightly Routine

    • Check List: Every night, lock all doors and windows. Check alarms if you have them.

    • Grab Bag Ready: Keep a small "Go-Bag" (bug-out bag) right by your bed for fast access.

    • Warning Systems: Use simple door/window alarms or motion sensors. A dog is the best early warning!

    4. Be Ready for Blackouts

    • Power Up: Have a solar charger ready for your phone and radio.

    • Emergency Light: Keep flashlights and battery-powered lanterns in easy-to-reach spots.

    5. If You Must Go Out

    • Be Smart: Walk in well-lit areas and try to travel with a friend.

    • Carry Protection: Keep pepper spray or a loud whistle handy.

    6. Escape Plan & Practice

    • Know Your Way Out: Plan two or three quiet escape routes from your home and neighborhood.

    • Practice Drills: Once a month, practice leaving your home quietly in the dark (a fake blackout drill) so everyone knows what to do.
The main goal: Set up systems that give you an early warning so you don't have to stay awake all night worrying. Stay safe!

We have several power outages each year.
Our generators, battery powered lanterns and such are always ready. I walk our property in the middle of the night when the animals act up, usually a deer has interrupted their sleep..
But yotes lurk around, almost lost a goat a few weeks ago. I have a bull that bugles when there is a threat...you are not out running him in his AO.
