You do know if you are by the water, if it goes off, they will come looking for you. Coast Guard is funny like that.
I would recommend something more along this line...... You can mount this at much more distance from you AO and have an audible alarm giving you time to prepare for incoming.... as well as not having a fire hazard. I like you solution if you were in the desert as it would give a long range visual ID of the direction of travel of the bogey.... but other than that scenario it would be to quite and hazardous to accidental fires. YMMV
I had a thought some time back about those cyolume (sp?) light sticks and mouse traps...Would be able to see those at a distance esp. up in a tree..
