When i pay my taxes, I give my money to a governmental entity (IRS), not a privately owed insurance company. And the fact that you get fined by the GOV if you dont buy the insurance amounts to a double tax, which if i remember correctly is unconstitutional.... Someone hit the reset button already....
I wonder if you rescinded your citizenship to stop paying taxes if you would not have to get insurance since it's a tax. It's time to become citizens of your state instead of your country. Jason
Jason, that is all fine and dandy except that the congress passed a law saying you are taxed for the next 10 years after renunciation. This was done to make people fear giving it up. I do not believe the government has taken this case to court. Although, given the current decision, Roberts might just **** us all again!
I am so disappointed today. I actually thought they would strike down the individual mandate. To call it a tax on people who don't buy health insurance is ludicrous. The only plus is that it will energize the right and hurt Obama's chances this fall.
What about all the baby momma's in da hood getting medicaid coverage for themselves and six kids, are they also required to pay this "tax"?
I don't like this at all, but I agree with Roberts' reasoning. See here: John Roberts, Traitor to the Conservative Cause? Nope - Bloomberg
Obama care This, i'm afraid, is the tip of the old proverbial iceberg....instead of "Heil Hitler" the phrase will be "Obey Obama!" What is to come in the future honestly scares the hell out of me......We are losing the very foundation of what this country is based (and was built) on.....and because of apathy, will be gift wrapped for the government to take from us, by us.....Hope i'm wrong, i'll gladly admit being wrong, if it doesn't come to pass.....Maybe all the excellent instructions and knowledge that has been given on this site will now be needed, though as much as i am grateful to all of the members for giving it to us, silently hoped it wouldn't ever be needed to a major extent.....Pray for our children, and our children's children.......for the future has , possibly, a bleak outlook...rsbhunter
Redneck Rebel !!!!!!!! I see the people who will benefit from this, i had written a post about it, but it mysteriously vanished when i hit the "post" button!!!!?????? The one's who work, will suffer for those that won't...
Ron Paul's response: Statement on Supreme Court Obamacare Decision Statement on Supreme Court Obamacare Decision WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ron Paul issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to uphold most of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. "I strongly disagree with today’s decision by the Supreme Court, but I am not surprised. The Court has a dismal record when it comes to protecting liberty against unconstitutional excesses by Congress. "Today we should remember that virtually everything government does is a 'mandate.' The issue is not whether Congress can compel commerce by forcing you to buy insurance, or simply compel you to pay a tax if you don’t. The issue is that this compulsion implies the use of government force against those who refuse. The fundamental hallmark of a free society should be the rejection of force. In a free society, therefore, individuals could opt out of “Obamacare” without paying a government tribute. "Those of us in Congress who believe in individual liberty must work tirelessly to repeal this national health care law and reduce federal involvement in healthcare generally. Obamacare can only increase third party interference in the doctor-patient relationship, increase costs, and reduce the quality of care. Only free market medicine can restore the critical independence of doctors, reduce costs through real competition and price sensitivity, and eliminate enormous paperwork burdens. Americans will opt out of Obamacare with or without Congress, but we can seize the opportunity today by crafting the legal framework to allow them to do so."
SCOTUS' decision clearly states that we, the people, got what we wanted from our elected officials. Therefore, unseating them is the way out, the right thinking representatives we put in place can repeal the idiotic inequitable "tax" (or as some call it, a "fine") on those that can't or don't want health insurance.
Well, the time is just about here to fix this mess, at least somewhat anyway. Come Nov. 6, we need to get everybody who is remotely Rep. out to the polling booth. That means Grandma and Grandpa. If they can't get there themselves, offer to pick them up and take them. We need to work on neighbors, friends, people at work, and people we don't even know. We need to make this stand or we will be forever silenced. Fix it or we are doomed to socialisim forever
"Once wide coercive powers are given to governmental agencies for particular purposes, such powers cannot be effectively controlled by democratic assemblies." - F.A. Hayek, The Constitution of Liberty
I firmly believe that today, we just took one giant step towards 1984. At least one step closer then we already are. I have talked to quite a few younger people (21-39) in the last couple of weeks, and how little they know about what is going on is not even worth thinking about. While a lot of people are working to go for the American Dream, their kids are playing games etc all day long, including my grandson. It is sad , but most of them can't count, divide or multiply without a calculator in hand. Have any of you noticed how many of the younger people cannot even talk to their friends unless the "text" them ? Sit down and give it a little thought. Turn off the tv's and computers and talk to your kids about the U.S.Govt and how it is supposed to work. Explain to them how to do math without the gadgets. I have also a lot of friends that are Mormon and they are beginning to admit that although their kids are mostly home schooled, they really know nothing about the world or even their own state. So why should we expect anything different from out kids then that ? After all, we all seem to know that the young people are a lot of the problem, but none really seem able or willing to help correct it. We depend entirely too much on the schools to raise our kids. But look where that got us and how much worse it will get in the very near future. Thoughts anyone ?
