I haven't read this for a while so.. Mr. Thoreau once spent several, I think three years in prison for refusing to pay the poll tax. His reasoning, the US was at that time involved in a war that the poll tax supported and he considered unethical and immoral. So there was a price to be paid and he paid it. He was a man of convictions.
