I live in a retirement community that I refer to as God's Waiting Room. I trust one couple and they are an immediate neighbor. Of the rest, most will bug out or at least, try to, some will just succumb to the reality that they are not going to survive, and there will be a handful of wolves that I am prepared to deal with.

If I can get out without detection (impossible) I will. If I have to stay, I have a plan, preps and at least three of the four of us are shooters. I repeat no one knows, except you guys and gals, but I trust you....

Frankly, I am not worried too much about this forum. I mean, I don't give out my address, phone or photos of self or family but what I am stocking and etc. I don't worry too much about talking about it here. And, if there are federals which I am sure there are at times or even state/locals cruising on here - well - I am sure they can find my location and etc. if they wanted to do so. Hell, my entire life is documented from since I was 21 years old and seriously updated every 5 years so... Now, what I don't do is talk about it real life - ever! How much ammo, guns, food, medical supplies - never. That's just asking for trouble, asking to get rob/burglarized even before a SHTF scenario.

And, OPSEC is about everything not just what you are prepping but damn near everything. We live in a country where criminals and hoodlums (want to be criminals) and nasty teenagers do not respect nor fear the law so the first step to not have an unhappy event in one's life is ensuring one keeps a low profile, keeps one's mouth shut.

But of course....wouldn't want to fail to make my contribution to Salt Lake City's pornography viewing statistics....though the tithing is just killing me. :(....worse than alimony....alimony stops when she or I die....tithing only stops when I die...that's if I want to stay in good standing with the Church, and have ambitions of Temple marriages for wives 2,3,4,5,6 etc.

If that's what you want to believe, then I'm ok with that.

Part of my OPSEC is to have a "neither confirm nor deny" policy. If you're right, I don't want you to know you're right. And if you're wrong, I want you to keep thinking you're right.

After thinking a while on OPSEC, I went back to one of my favorite books on the subject Lights Out. Mark's battle with the evils in the period are often centered on the actions of Jon Olsen. Olsen and his cohorts destroy the gun dealing clan, the survivalist group funded by his employer, the sheriff, kill many members of Mark's group and nearly destroy Mark's community survival group. Olsen learns where the gun shop people are, where the survival compound is, knows how the groups are organized, etc, all due to Mark and his group furnishing him the location, number of people in the location, their level of preparedness and their weaknesses. He then uses the resources taken from the "prepared" to create his own power base. I find Lights Out to be the best primer on OPSEC I have ever read in a thought provoking way. Every action you take will have some results that you can not figure out ahead and you have no idea of the future actions of any of the members of your group. Personal bias, Lights Out has perhaps the most thought provoking discussion of how to organize a community and its defense, complete with all the warts, interpersonal problems, limits in being ready for an event, etc. Mark and his group organize, take advantage of all the breaks they can and survive, while the classic prep groups, his bosses survival compound, his brother's massive individual preps, and FEMA etc all fail. Well worth reading the book and at the 5 th reading you will still be learning things. Maybe we should have a discussion of the information discussed in it?

There was a suggestion a couple months ago about setting up discussion groups in the Survival Reading Room. So far as I know, that option remains open.

If you are on line at all, you have no real privacy.

As an object lesson to non-believers, I hand them my high school year book. It was published well before the internet exisited.

I have the unbeliever pick a name at random.

I can normally give you a street address and phone number in under 30 minutes using data found in the open on the net. Give me a full hour and I can normally build a rudimentary family tree and often offer photos of family members or their gravestones anyway.

Not for everyone mind you, but for a very large number.....
