We seem to have a hole in our forum. I have seen one maybe two threads mentioning the topic of outhouses. I see many threads and discussions on septic systems but do we believe that our septic will always be an option? Will we always be able to push the handle and have things be taken care of? Are people planning on using their water to flush their toilets? If not then an outhouse is the perfect solution. Outhouses are a part of history and they are functional and easy to use. When putting in an outhouse it requires more than digging a hole and building a shack over it. It requires knowledge of: Placement Building, venting, the perfect throne Depth of hole or various types of systems Reducing odors & what to use Critter proofing @Falcon15 said- Water wells need to be deep and if you have the foresight, a septic system installed. If that is not an option, your outhouse needs to be at LEAST 500 yards from your water source, and downhill from it. When it needs emptying it is dragged far away and emptied. Because camp is not used daily or even monthly, this collection system works.
