Yikes!! I have been having a strange feeling in my left eye for several months now and in the last few weeks, I have been loosing peripheral vision in this eye, from the nose side. I went to our local eye specialist today and was diagnosed with a partially detached retina. YUCK! I have surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.

I was wondering if any of my fellow squirrels have been through this and can tell me what the surgery and recovery is like. I've been doing the internet search stuff and have gotten a lot of info, but nothing from someone that has actually had it done and can answer question.

Boss had a detached one, how much I don't know and had several weeks of near bed rest and recovered 100 % of his sight so that is good news and bad news. They never did figure out what caused it. Praying for you and if the dr say's jump, jump and ask if that was high enough? I had a lazy eye as a kid and it wasn't caught 70 years ago and had 20-2000 sight in my left eye and no depth perception as a kid. Never could figure out how people hit balls or caught them. With glasses and time it got better but I still have very little depth perception. You have to pick a doctor you trust and do as they say, your health is not something to take chances with.

Wife had the same thing this last winter. The laser surgery was quick....in and out same day. Recovery was easy with some notable spotty vision for a couple of days. She is suprised you did not get an immediate surgery and are waiting for a week. If the retina tears completely and detaches, that is a different game.

I would have been scheduled this week, but my wife, who is going to be my chauffeur/caretaker/nurse/keeper/helpmate is out of the country visiting her Mom and won't be back until this Saturday. Next Wednesday was the earliest they could schedule me after that. Bummer, but her visit to her Mom was very important.

Replacement of both lens, 6 months a part. Not the same surgery but a world of sight returned and all went well for me.
Best of luck and take it easy after the surgery.

Well I've be thru Cataract surgery in my right eye, it's about a 45 minute prep, they ask you about 10 times which eye it is... (GOOD) then 5 minutes with the doc, and you can drive home by yourself afterward, my left eye needs it. And in case you didn't know it's the steroids that we have been given that causes it...

My father had detached retinas in both eyes, but that was back in the 70s. The first one they used cryology (?) to freeze it back on. The second, a few years later, used laser surgery to correct the problem.

I believe in both cases the retinas were completely detached. When the surgery was over, he still had distorted vision. But his last surgery was in the late 70s / early 80s so I'm sure procedures have greatly improved in 35+ years.

The eyesight in my left eye got bad enough yesterday that I called the Retina Clinic and got my visit rescheduled to today at 3 PM Texas time. Prayers would be very welcome.
