As of this morning the petition from Texas was coming up on 100,000 signatures.I don't expect anything concrete to come of it.Probably ignored by "O" but if you don't live here you should know that "Texas Secede" stickers have been around a long time. What would be a welcome outcome would be waking people(libs and DC)up to whats going on in the federal government.Of course the repeal of the 17th amendment and elevation of the 10th to it's intended status would be nice too.Come to think of it we could just restore the constitution and bill of rights to it"s former glory. But that's just a fantasy right?

Less than a week after a New Orleans suburbanite petitioned the White House to allow Louisiana to secede from the United States, petitions from seven states have collected enough signatures to trigger a promised review from the Obama administration.
By 6:00 a.m. EST Wednesday, more than 675,000 digital signatures appeared on 69 separate secession petitions covering all 50 states, according to a Daily Caller analysis of requests lodged with the White House’s “We the People” online petition system.
A petition from Vermont, where talk of secession is a regular feature of political life, was the final entry.
Petitions from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas residents have accrued at least 25,000 signatures, the number the Obama administration says it will reward with a staff review of online proposals.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has one message for the tens of thousands of Texans calling for secession from the United States: The state will not secede.
More than 76,000 people have signed a petition on the “We the People” White House website for Texas to withdraw from the Union and start a new government after President Barack Obama was re-elected.
“The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. … Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government,” the petition states.
Perry spokesperson Catherine Frazier tells CBS News that the governor “shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government,” but “believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it.”

This idiot needs to be tared and feathered and then thrown out of Texas for being such a wimp (I'm being nice). First he caves when TX wanted to throw the TSA out and now kneels down not wanting to upset .goob. Guess that is all you can expect from an ex Texas A&M cheerleader.

LOL MM! It's going to take a strong person that is independently wealthy and strong in conviction to take the fight to the Feds. Political suicide, not to mention might be death by fed.

Most all elected officials are beholden to the system. It got them there, it pays them, it houses them and it keeps them in power. Plus, the federal government will only allow you to sue them (for seccession or otherwise) at their pleasure.

Yep, interesting days indeed my simian friends, interesting days.

Everyone here at Monkey anyway, understands that the two party system sucks. Maybe this interest in seccession, could lead to a new more powerful party. ..... the Seccessionist Party.

Perry is a RHINO and always has been since he converted to republican to run for state ag comm. in the early nineties. He single handedly threw out all of the small farmer programs Jim Hightower worked hard to get through.Perry needed the backing of the "big money"(corp. farming) to get into the govenors office. He has sold out the ordinary people of Texas more than just a couple of times. He is nothing more than a banker's lap dog.

Well, all the good names seem to be taken. It would be cool to have parties be named after the creatures of the world in which they represent. Maybe I could start a party called "Great White". Our purpose is not to win elections, just go around killing every other son-of-a-@&*^! because we are the kings of the ocean, top of the primordial food chain. Maybe that is what we need --more politicians fighting to the death to prove one's loyalty to the republic. Of course, not everybody would be forced to fight; we could only make the Ivy League types do battle to the death while average, blue collar Joe is exempted. It would be kind of like the reverse of the "Hunger Games". Then, whoever makes it to the top tier could run, and since the average Joe kind of guy gets a pass, we are in good shape to start. Next, we should hold an election. I think elections should be fun, not about who has the most money and influence. Therefore, I like George Carlin's approach the best. We should send a monkey up into the ionosphere at the edge of space on a rocket, and wait for him to land. Wherever he lands, the first person's hand that he shakes becomes the President. But, what about all those guys who fought to become President? They were entertainment, of course. Oh, and the average Joe blue collar guys become the next Vice President and cabinet. See? It can be easily accomplished. The republic is now protected.
