    question for the people here
As we age some things are not going to go well with our body’s and eyesight .so as we age do you think the weapons and caliber that you carry around all day plus given the fact now it one weapon system that does require two diff types of ammo and mags
I have been thinking about this for a while now .i like the fact that my pistol mags will fit the Carbine unit .even with glass now I’m still not that good shot because of cataracts and laser surgery I had .I'm getting out the 200 yard mark but I found that as I slowed down over the years now that I’m 60 this year it been getting hard in some areas to lug around all the gear I used to not think about .
Plus I like the lighter weight of the Carbine down to 6.1/2 pd weight mark fully loaded with red dot scope and 27 rd mag and weapon light .

I had this discussion Here not that long ago! Short version, My Dad ended up with a really sweet shootin Ruger M77/44 to go along with his .44 Ruger RedHawk! We tried to find a 10 mm carbine that 1) he liked, and 2) worked, but to no avail, so the .44 Mag became the go to! Recoil is pussy cat soft in the Carbine, and hits like a run away freight train, ammo is super easy to reload, and is inexpensive too! You can also step down the power levels if you like, OR go .357 Mag which allows the use of super soft shootin .38 Special!
An AR can be had in most pistol chamberings, and that would match up to a carry pistol well enough, some even take Glock Mags, which makes the choice a simple one ( as long as you and Glock get along) and there are tons of combos you can come up with to make the perfect set up! Conversly, you could also go old school classic and get a pistol carbine Lever action, Winchester or Henry and choose the wheel gun that best suits your needs and desires!

Check out MechTech out of Kallispell MT. HOME - MechTech
THey make carbine uppers on to which your pistol lower is added.
They work for 1911. XD, and Glock, and are chambered in 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP

Have looked at MechTech a lot of times, best of both worlds if you have the right pistol, while more expensive than the present AR rifles, allows you to have a carbine without any Fed paperwork as the pistol is registered, jut the same as the lower in an AR. It seems to me to be a way to manufacture a simple blow back weapon, could be done for much less as a Sten or Soumi type, while keeping the political correctness Nazi's off your back. Have seen and fired two, one 9 mm and one 45, worked well and shot well, don't know how to clean the back part and neither did the owners, but they had hundreds of rounds, with a lot of eager helpers, :), to get the round count up. Don't know how practical they would be, but they draw a crowd at the range when you take the pistol you were firing and convert it into a carbine while they watch. Draws almost as much of a crowd as shooting a black powder rifle with a cylinder.:sneaky:

FWIW - Wife bought me the Ruger PC carbine in 9mm for B'Day this year. Note I implied "for me". HAHAHAHAHAHA. She immediately took possession of it as her home defense long gun or truck gun as it may be. I've put over 1,000 rounds through it so far without a burp.
She likes the lack of recoil. and I like it because I already stock a ton of 9mm for various handguns.

A carbine is next on my wish list. Does come in handy for what it does.

I once played around with a MAC10, i almost brought one, i went and got 6 sets of finger print cards from the sheriff, but I could not bear to give up $400.00. Anyway ,you could shoot it from the hip, and see the 45's in the air and walk the impact point around. It was easy to see on auto, but after that I could see them on fast single shots .
I have the ammo, but I do not have a pistol, with mags to fit a carbine.
I have been thinking about......but, about all I do is think.
    a 30 rd,22 mag pistol or a carbine in 9 or 45

    DKR Interesting ideas, interesting stories

    (sigh)

If there was only an M1 carbine IN 45 ACP that didn't cost as much as a new car.....

I (not that old yet) am a big fan of these, and all of my friends (big time deer hunters) make fun of me. They get the job done, they are convenient, they are not too big for pests or too small for opportunity shots hunting, and that list goes on for a ways. For about 10 years (long time for me still, haha, gotta tease y'all) my go-to gun anytime I lef tthe house or heard a bump in the night was a winchester '73 in .45lc...and I did everything I ever needed with that gun, until one day I needed to make a 400 yard shot on a pack of wild dogs that the gun simply was not capable of making...looking into other options still.

@hank2222 Like @Lancer Ruger PC 9mm (this carbine easily breaks down for transport just like the 10/22 Take Down), I am leaning toward getting one because everyone says how reliable they are plus they use Glock mags (which I have a lot) plus, I am betting that they will soon come out with a integrated suppressor barrel for it just like the 10/22 Take Down which it closely resembles. No big can on the end, good size magazine, reliable...yep, I am watching and waiting on this one and as soon as they produce a suppressor barrel then I am jumping on it.

Any opinions on the Ruger PCC vs an M1 carbine? We are looking into them here now, and I am not sure how which one I like better at this point. Just different enough. If Ruger would make a .45acp, i would be ALL over that.

I keep thinking I should pull the barrel and thread it myself......
A 1/2" ID annular cutter to bring it down to .500" OD, then a 1/2 x 28 die is all you need. I have several of both.
    Lazy I s'pose..

Well, I saw a 10/22 Take Down with the suppressor barrel (Ruger Silent-SR ISB model 19001) and it convinced me that if they do the same for the PC 9mm that I will definitely purchase one for the wife and one for myself. The barrel is the suppressor, or better stated the suppressor is integrated into the barrel, so you don't need to thread the barrel to screw a suppressor can on the end.

Even lazier, but I like it.
I wasn't aware of that setup.
On the other hand, I already have some slim profile cans for 9mm.

The one I'm really wanting is the Taurus CT-G2 in 10mm. Takes proprietary mags, BUT, Thompson stick mags can be modified to fit, giving 25 rounds of super hard hitting 10mm out of a slick handeling carbine! If only they would offer the full blown 10mm and not just 9 and .40, and .45

I don’t have any of the guns you are talking about. I have a Marlin.41 mag lever,a Rossi.45 colt lever ,a Rossi.44 mag lever and a ruger .44 mag auto carbine, all of which get the job done. Around the house I use a smith Wesson model 57 .41 mag or a smith Wesson model 29 .44 mag and the old 12ga double barrel. I have never felt under gunned with any of those.
