    Before reading through the thread I voted that I disagree. I do not think there is going to be a necessary call to arms to protect our liberties in the next few years (which I look at as 10 or less years).

    I know that this is contrary to what is popularly believed around here but I just do not see it happening. Below are a few reasons that have been pointed out already and a few reasons of my own that I do not think there will be an armed resistance.

    1. The Beast - When I refer to "The Beast" I am talking about the major two party political regime, media, and corporations that run and dictate just about everything in the average persons lives. Now, I am not saying that the average person doesn't have freedom of choice. I am saying, however, that the average person is willing to accept what is given/fed to them without thinking twice. I see the beast as the biggest problem and driving force in what brings us to post a poll like this on the monkey. The beast is what makes us prep. But to the average person the beast does not exist. After all, it has become very good at providing the populace with bread and circus.
    2. The sheeple have lived up to their name. Most people do not care anymore as long as they have their McDonnald's, TV, Dodge Ram, and Starbuck's latte. I always hear people talking about how we shouldn't complain about what is going on with taxation, legislation, socialization as the poor person in America has it better than the English kings of yesteryear.
    3. Spineless generation - I am a 20 something who has lived life from a different perspective than most of my peers. In my experience this generation is f*(&ed. These people care about no one but themselves, will do anything to get ahead so long as it is stabbing someone in the back (there is nothing worse to these people than having to look someone in the eye while they do it.), and have no principles or understand of right and wrong.
    I also think there might be a disconnect between the 20 something prepper and the old school/more experienced prepper. I hear from my uncles and other more seasoned individuals the old "pry it from my cold dead hands line". The new age prepper, at least the ones I talk to, would allow the government to come in our homes and take our guns. We do this with the idea in mind that we will be more dangerous than a last stand in our home against a squad of kids fresh out of boot camp just doing what they are told. There are better targets and better times to use our brains to send a message. I also think the younger prepper thinks he/she knows more than they actually do. This is a major flaw. If you think you know it all you think you have it figured out...when you think that, you are dead in a situation like a revolution. Lastly, I think the younger prepper would be fighting for a different version of freedom and liberty.

    I grew up in a family that had a "Live to work" attitude about things. Our entire corporate system is built around this when compared to the rest of the world. Most younger people that I talk to that work 9-5's hate that, there is a more "work to live" attitude. My generation cares more about having a good time and seeing the world than they do about career advancement or even putting in a hard days work. This is why I think a more european style government and economic system has become appealing to so many. I think there are many simple solutions to these gaps politically that could keep our country from moving to far to the left.

    It's late and I doubt what I just wrote made much sense. I just do not think most have it in them to stand up and fight for liberties. They will however fight for whole foods, 3-D movies, and mandatory 3 month's worth of vacations a year.

    @TheEconomist --Pretty good argument. :)

    But the question posed wasn't "Do you think a revolution will happen", it was "Is it necessary"...and although the latter question presupposes the former in the execution part, the idea is framed around necessity alone. Still, I do recognize your statements as having merit, even if you did miss the point of the polled question.

    I voted yes because I feel the Beast is close to making its move to install its leader. My interpretation of the Beast as I see it. The Beast is the World powers that be. Global government, Global power brokers and the Global communist/ Socialist movement. I believe they will soon elect a leader, A man born in Isreal but he is not a Jew. This leader will call for the entire world to disarm except of course for his peace keeping force the U.N. With the world so sick and tired of war and pushing towards socialism he can easily persuade Many to follow him in this endeavor. Of course we will resist. This government will eventually attempt to confiscate American Firearms. That is what started the first revolution and that is what will start the second one. If we win , we keep our bill of rights and stay or return to being a free and sovereign nation . If we lose we are slaves to the Anti Christ until the end.

    Look guys, Every day there is a possibility that we might have to fight for our God Given rights. My line is firearm confiscation just like it was with the founders. Ill be at Lexington II. and the second battle of Bunker Hill or where ever the fight starts. Michigan Militia will answer the call. KF

    Taxes are one way about it and striking at the soft underbelly of all money systems is another. If currency is the life blood of the monster then perhaps a blood disease, or blockage, would be the best answer. I see people die from strokes every day. It sounds easier and smarter than fighting Rambo or Gordon Gecko (for those of you who get what I'm saying).

    ...For those who don't, stop buying anything from corporate franchises. Stop buying from stores that charge taxes. Sell your stuff tax free or for silver and gold. Spend all of your money locally and from people who actually live in your area and own their own stores. Shun bankers. Use every means available to break the banking system. If we don't fight now we will soon realize that we won't have that option and I'm not talking about in ten years, I am talking about a year or two. In 2014 biometric imprinting, tracking, and logging will be required to work a job.

    2) As a whole, this country is full of God fearing religious folks...on Sunday. The rest of the time, they've turned their back on him;

    It is our responsibility as we and the Americans before us have allowed it to go this far.

    Freedom is what we are talking about here. It's all for nothing without freedom. Who wants to live with freedom and who wants to live with out? If you are more concerned about football, american idol, or your cooking shows than you are about freedom then you are part of the problem, not the solution. You have access to everything you could ever need and yet that will not move people off their asses. We can do anything and we can win but what we really need is a leader. A true leader who people follow because they believe in them, not because they are told to. Yeah a leader like that would die but then if they were afraid of dying then they wouldn't be a very good leader.

    When was the last time any of us saw a true leader? When was the last time any of us cared enough about our selves to demand freedom? When was the last time we loved our selves enough to die for our selves? Most people are so self destructive that they wouldn't care if they actually became slaves and many would welcome the change so that they would have someone taking care of them all of the time. Those people, the hopeless slaves who love their own prisons, will never be changed.

    This is not a fight to win something. It is a fight down to the last man to get rid of tyranny. Tyranny is pervasive and covers much of the world and is the only thing our kids are certain to get. Those in charge despise the subservient. They think the weak and those begging for mercy are the scum of the earth and wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. All of the systems of public welfare and compassion/entitlement programs are used to identify people who they think are not worth living. They hate us but you know what? We don't need them. People may not like it but they CAN walk on their own with out the charity from the bastards. We don't need their crumbs of cake. I would rather starve than take another scrap from them.

    I can't give you a like on this Brokor, his last line before the applause to me revealed his true being. Don't misunderstand me. His utopian pie in the sky would be nice if it were attainable without destroying freedom and liberty. Who wouldn't choose love over fear? However there are many other aspects and consequences to consider. Who wouldn't like to see the starving masses free from hunger? However, undeniably there is evil in this world. Many truly evil individuals are in head of state positions of power in their respective countries, and many equally evil envious greedy SOB's are waiting in the wings to replace them. There is no peace without power, whether it be on a personal level or a world wide level. Nothing comes without a price.
    .
    Unfortunately, we may have to prove this on a national level once again in my lifetime!

    I struggled with this very same concept for many years. In fact, since I have been a member here (around 2005) for about 9 years, I have changed my perspective on a great many things. To know specifically what Bill Hicks was referring to, is to know the man. And as he would probably say, you will in turn come to know yourself. Hicks was a very spiritual (and messed up for quite some time) being, with a mind and consciousness far beyond his time. The theory of oneness and spiritual unity is not really subjective, but it must be experienced. Nobody can really guide you, although some will try.

    Bill Hicks was pointing out how senseless and violent and terrible war really is, and contrasting it with its exact antithesis --world peace. It's something he knew most likely would never exist, in fact he was about as cynical about it as any nationalistic liberty lover. The point was, if we spend so much effort and time and "money" finding new and bigger ways to kill each other, there is no hope for humanity at all. We are not just "America" and "Israel" or "Iran", we are human beings living on a gigantic biosphere in a single solar system with one sun, in the Milky Way galaxy which is on a slow collision course with the Andromeda galaxy, in the middle of endless space. We are so much more than upright mammals who are convinced in the philosophy of land management and national sovereignty. We are beings of limitless potential and a unified consciousness.

    On the greater scheme, the grand scale, freedom and liberty are merely after-effects of a solution which precedes them. That solution is rooted in every heart and mind of every human being, and it calls out to us at some point in our lives. For many, it is when we are young and free, without restraint or understanding and responsibility. At some point, we forget our innocence and wonder, and we adopt the many methods and philosophies of the adult mindset, often brought on by regret, failure, resentment or indifference among other things. But, to actually return to our innocent state of mind, even for a second to chance a glimpse at beauty and adoration for our magnificent existence, would be spectacular. We are so much more than we have been led to believe.

    Bill Hicks was inspiring us to remember who we truly are. We are one, or we are nothing at all.

    .
    As a 22 year USN world traveler I came to respect many religions and ethnic groups. Not all! Some of each are quite intolerant of any human who does not believe as they do, or have another ethnic background. This is undeniable fact. Some may say it is merely radicals of those groups. Bill Hicks is far from the 1st to preach world peace and loving all mankind. Ghandi, Jesus Christ, and Buddha immediately come to mind. This goes back 1000's of years. I don't expect this will be solved in the next 5 centuries, and I will not live for 10% of that time. I do not accept your statement, "We are one, or we are nothing at all". I am, and no matter how much I want peace, there are those who would kill me for any number of reasons. We are after all, all sinners. None of us are perfect. I say, one must protect one"s loved ones, innocents, the weak, and I don't plan on giving up my best defense, (my mind and my guns) to make it easy for some huge mean evil SOB. I will kill the SOB, and celebrate my life and his or her death. I will settle that action with my maker upon my death.

    An armed revolution in the traditional sense would never work today, however something similar to the Maidens in Ukraine might be in our future.

    I do not argue with your undeniable and inalienable right to protect and defend yourself, or to own guns and be happy. There are plenty of ignorant, mean, hateful people in the world, too. I do not apply the logic and philosophy I described earlier to the current political status of our country or the world, but to the world of the past and the future. And our past as well as our future is paved with war.

    "No. We have to stay here and there's a simple reason why. Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao-Tzu, Einstein, Morobuto, Buddy Holly, Aristophanes .. and all of this .. all of this was for nothing unless we go to the stars." Sinclair, Infection (Babylon 5)

    I am presenting to you an idea. This idea is bigger than you, it is bigger than me. The idea will grow whether or not we accept it and it will follow us to our final breath. There is no single foundation strong enough, no individual power great enough to carry a divided people forward and to the stars unless it is for one race, one world, one heart forged out of the toughest elements and honed with temperance, passion and honesty. Right now it may seem these are all qualities we do not possess, and we struggle with greed, corruption, deceit and hatred at every turn. Our nations are divided and wage war, some of them on multiple fronts. We must ask why and dare to stand against the darkness, no matter the cost.

    "No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by the force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power governments, and tyrants, and armies can not stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free." G'Kar, The Long, Twilight Struggle (Babylon 5)

    I cite these quotes from the television show, Babylon 5 because they are quite compelling. Have a watch sometime if you have the time.
