The cheapest 2x4 I can find is a Douglas furr for $2.33 each, of course never available in my area. The cheapest available right now for me is about $5, I'm sure because of the ridiculously high diesel prices.

Looks like about $4 for an eight foot 2x4 after sales tax is here to stay as long as we have high diesel prices. So looking back, selling those 2x4s from 2 years later still a good move.
Lumber futures way down. But it will take a while to get that over priced lumber out of the supply system with slow sales.
