Puerto Rico is pushing for state hood

They don't have the discipline to maintain their economy so they want the US to cover their losses .
Do you believe they have right to demand an answer .and where might they go if the US does not pick up the check ?
Very few of the population vote so getting an honest consensus is difficult. I've got a feeling they want our money but not our laws.

What would the US have to gain? No real tax base there, no major exports, no quality infrastructure. We'd be fools to take that on.

I had to schedule not take vacation or have sick days and try to get it done on a day before days off.

A Syrian refugee gets full boat of SSI healthcare, rent assistance and food stamps and they do not have to do a thing it's all done for them and given a translator and fill out all their paperwork and they get a special line for business loans and education. I know people on disability that get 350.00 a month because they are mentally challenged and never could work their families paid SSI but they don't pass muster but a illegal alien does and a foreign national that never paid a dime. We also feed and give aid and comfort medial supplies and free surgery to non combatants and people we are not even at war with we pay most of the U.N. food program and it is supplied with American grain milk cheese bought with our tax dollars and we get no repeat no recognition all the labels say U.N. we pay over half of the U.N. bills maintenence on the building traver for dignitaries that come from poor nations and their security details are ex service people OURS.

American pay 60% of all income to taxes divided into nit picking now they want to tax internet sales a lage part is individuals that already pay 10% to people like ebay then to a online payment service like Paypal 10% and now they will want 6 to 8.5% so 28% on top of every gallon of fuel 50 cents a gallon but they don't have money for infrastructure ? I pay tax on every service I use and tags insurance license and repairs school emergency services road tax property tax and sirloin is 7.88 a pound gas is 2.50 F___ them all

we need to turn the whole place into a penal colony that way they will have someone to rebuild because they can't seem to got off their ass and their Governor all she can do is run her mouth has no control over any of the unions and they can't get past their pissing contests to rebuild a perfect example of socialism in action we need to send in Obummer he knows how to organize he knows how to get support raise money and roll up those sleeves and read a teleprompter maybe he can get Soros to build them another Island. and they can make Hilery their queen and Bernie Sanders and Elisabeth Warren to social services and healthcare you know a real world test of all their competence and experience if it works we can do it here LMAO...

I would make a good detention center for all the illegals coming across. One way ticket to PR. Maybe they could help get the grid up and running.

 

I don't see the point in giving them statehood; however, I think they do have lots to offer in the way of tourism among other things. I think they would do better to be given independence as I frankly do not see why we need them as a territory, those days are long gone. They can sink or swim with independence.

 

While I have never been there, friends have .Their impression of their experience there, were that the natives do not respect the Americans, what they respect is money . And even that is questionable .
I know my friends , and they are not arrogant nor rich, but down to earth people who them selves live and work in a resort town .
They cannot possibly become self sufficient for several reasons .
They don't want to work . manufacturing that goes there finds it hard to keep employees. soon as they get paid they do not show up for days. Or the slightest bribe from a competitor has them job hopping, usually on false promises ,and loose trust and again don't show up for work .
The country has few natural resources and what there is ,is consumed by the inhabitance which is also growing well over populated . They alone prove the socialist liberal agenda does not work . and no leadership there had been able to change that.
Nor has American help with trying to introduce industry made any difference, except to make them more lazy and more demanding.

 

The majority of PR I knew in the Army were contemptuous of Americans, statehood, and rules in general. They could lie and manipulate better than any politicians I know.

PBS can't even generate a decent travel show episode to entice visitors. It looks like a shithole slum with healthy men playing dominoes all day.

I have met several descendents of immigrants from PR that were hard working ethical men. Maybe it's something in the water down there.

I honestly don't see any of the US possessions (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands or Guam) ever gaining statehood. All three lean predominantly left, and could tilt the balance in that direction, for a long time to come.

I imagine it would be similar to the entry of states, prior to the US Civil War....you want one that leans left? Not until we have a 2nd one, that leans to the right!
