The Marine who became immortalized by playing a brutal drill instructor in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” has died. R. Lee Ermey was 74. “It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia,” his manager Bill Rogin said in a statement posted to Mr. Ermey’s official Twitter account. “He will be greatly missed by all of us,” Mr. Rogin wrote. “Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed. He was a Hollywood guy that was really Pro-Second Amendment.. RIP
Turning into a bad week first Art Bell then R. Lee Ermey the only way that this horrible trend could turn out well is if Nancy Pelosi was the third---- you know famous people die in threes well the last is more infamous.
GOD SPEED GUNNY! I met him doing a show in the Sand Box, one hell of a friendly stand up guy, not the typical holliweird type at all, more like your favoirt uncle, the marine to sit around a fire with telling war stories, dirty jokes farting and tellin lies! Will miss him! RIP!!!
I never got the pleasure to meet him in my travels but I know he was in the sandbox and the rock pile a hell'va lot. And, I know he was loved by the troops there because he represented every Drill Sargent/Instructor that ever lived. God bless, Gunny. Streams of whiskey, brother. @DKR Thanks, I don't think I would have heard it otherwise. Thank you. God, this has been a miserable month, one that I won't soon forget...but needs forgotten.
Gunny's passing is a sudden, surprising, and sad loss. No Marine dies unless God in His Wisdom authorizes it. Here's to you Sarge, a raised glass, and military salute.
It is sad to lose someone that you respect and admire. Semper Fi Gunny! We know the Gates are secure..
Some lame ass paper, a town drunk and draft dodger would have more mention, I would terminate my subscription immediately ! That rag is not worth using to wrap fish guts. The L.A. Times had a decent spread.
Boy, oh boy! I could NOT agree with anyone, more than I do with this statement! RIP Gunny! Art Bell died? Dang. He used to be a member of a forum I owned. All the good ones go too soon, far too soon.
RIP Gunny, I will now watch Full Metal Jacket in his honor and more importantly, Prayers to his family.
Daggummit Harry Anderson of Night Court died that makes 3 I guess will have to wait for the next trilogy of notables to pass my hopefuls are Nancy Pelosi, Rosie O'Donald and those annoying a-holes that call about my vehicle warranty is expiring.
