Goat meat is the most consumed meat on the planet. It taste very much like Venison. If you slow cook it at 250* for 4 hours the meat falls apart like pulled Pork.
Hardest part for me is the dispatch. The butchering is no problem but I have a hard time dropping my adult goats. Some of them I have grown fond of. Luckily most of my herd is breeding stock. The younger ones I have no attachment to, that makes it easier.
The sheep have no real personality and are very dumb looking, the goats have their own character.

I think herfords are teh best eating because they have more fat marbling. But taking care of them... geez the way the current breeding is they are extremely susceptible to pink eye and eye cancer.
Black Angus are popular right now because they are a low fat marbling breed.

    Hunter Bouldin

In this presentation I will be explaining the pros and cons of three different beef cattle breeds.
Focusing on the Brangus, Beefmaster, and Angus Breed.
    Brangus
Pros: Gain weight in hot months when most breeds lose weight.
Heavier at birth, weaning and produce more pounds per cow.
High resistance to heat and humidity.
    Cons: Lower conception rate.
Calve later and lower calf survival rate.
    Angus
    Pros: Produce highly desired meat.
    Excellent cross breeding choice.
    Docile, Hardy, Calve easily
Cons: Tend to lose weight in hot months.
Can be affected by pink eye.
Tend to prolapse or need C-section.

I'd like to get my hands on some Highland cattle. Supposed to be some excellent eating, and easier to care for than most.
