I believe it was the Scourge of Georgia, General Sherman, who said "War is Hell." We have allowed ourselves to think that 'modern war' is sanitised, clean and high tech. It still takes "boots on the ground" after the clean bit....... And the civilians always lose no matter which side 'wins'......
