This was really fun I recommend giving it a try
anybody else do stuff like this?
yes, but I don't bother with more than the fighting rifle and and pocket pistol, cause that's all I'd have if it was the real deal. The only other gun I own is the CW9, which is the practice-spare, keeping wear and fouling mostly off of the CM9 that is the EDC pocket gun.

can someone recommend steel targets for 9mm that are inexpensive?
Most of us Off-Grid Folks, make our own targets, out of Sheet Metal.... I have a 1000Yd Target (18" Gong) that I shoot at when testing .308 NATO Loadings... It works well, just being hung in a Tree..... .....
Other than theft of some steel plates (a really bad idea) you might check with a local ironwork fab shop and see if they have some cutoffs that you can take home for short money or free. Consider the caliber you want to stop, as thin plate may not be enough for heavy hitters, and you might be tempted to use a larger than 9mm at some point. Consider also the potential for ricochet when setting them up.
