Looks like a possible alternative for all you folks wanting a m-6 ... the Savage model 42 is a .22 over .410 withsynthetic stock and forearm... Available in your local Wally World for a mere $367 smackeroos... http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/Model42
For decades they made the Model 24, an over/under combination gun, which was available in 22LR/.410 22LR/20 Gauge .22WMR/20 Gauge .22 Hornet/20 Gauge .222 Rem/20 Gauge .30-30/20 Gauge .22 Hornet/12 Gauge .222 Rem/12 Gauge .223 Rem/20 Gauge .223 Rem/12 Gauge .30-30/12 Gauge .357 Mag/20 Gauge They stopped making them about 2008, were originally designed as a survival gun for air crews in WW2 but replaced because of the soft lead .22LR bullet possibly violating the Hague Convention. Should be able to find one if you look for a while, people tend not to get rid of them.
The Savage 42 is supposed to be available in .22lr/.410 and .22Mag/.410, so far the only ones I have seen in stores is the .22lr/.410. Nice little gun and when i can find one in .22Mag/.410 I will get it. I currently have a M6 Scout .22lr/.410 but have no intention of selling. The Savage 24 series guns have always been fascinating to me, but more along the size/weight of a farm/homesteading gun than something you would pack along as a survival gun. Prices on even a beater 24 can be steep IF the person is willing to sell.
